Explosive! That is the word that can best be used to describe the season finale of
Dark Matter. If you thought the first season left things on a big cliffhanger then be prepared, because this episode of
Dark Matter leaves things even more uncertain. In fact, by the end of the episode, I think the biggest question will be: what will the cast look like next season? So many things happen that all tie together that this is a hard episode to preview without giving away half the story, but I will do my best to tease a few intersting bits.
What I can tell you is that the premise of the episode is centered around a Corporate Committee meeting and the crew trying to prevent a war from being launched. I'll let imaginations run wild with what happens at that meeting. Let's just say hijinks ensue. There were several plot points that I was really hoping would be covered that aren't. I'll admit that their absence was kind of disappointing. I guess the show will deal with them next season, but I was really hoping to see them covered this year. Oh well, at least we know there is another season for them to be tackled.
Here are the few vague teases I can give you. Almost the entire crew parts ways with this season in some precarious position. Some more so than others and at least one may not make it through the Season Three premiere alive. The stakes are high and given that the crew is trying to stop an all-out corporate war you can bet that things in this episode are intense. There are many familiar faces returning, some of whom I can tease like Torri Higginson as Commander Truffault, Kris Holden-Ried as Kierken, and Ellen Wong as Misaki. Others are so surprising that I won't tease them because I want other fans to be as surprised as I was. Friends become enemies and enemies become potential friends. Characters betray and backstab each other so often that it becomes hard to keep up with who is loyal to who. Every time I thought I had someone's allegiance figured out things got flipped around and I was left kind of confused as to motives. At least one betrayal is so personal that I am very curious to find out how it will play out next season. Another betrayal didn't go at all how I had expected it to. This episode leaves so many questions unanswered that it is going to make for a very long hiatus of speculation.
This episode does not tie up the season in some great big nice bow. And I must admit that this episode feels more like a regular mid-season episode than a season finale, but it still ended the season in an interesting way. Though, if I'm being completely honest, I enjoyed the season finale last year a lot more. This isn't a bad episode, far from it, but it's not what I was expecting from a season finale. The scale of the episode is grand, but things don't quite flow together as I was expecting them to. As most expect from this show, the performances are powerful and the action sequences are incredible.
