Brooklyn Nine-Nine has a killer guest spot in store for Eric Roberts.
The eccentric, prolific film and TV actor will guest-star as Jimmy “The Butcher” Figgis, the cop comedy’s& oft-referenced yet unseen murderous mafia boss that Jake (Andy Samberg) and Holt (Andre Braugher) have been trying to take down, EW has learned. As you recall, Adrian Pimento (Jason Mantzoukas) spent a dozen years carrying out dirty work for Figgis while undercover for the NYPD and got a little — make that, way — too close.
Figgis was not captured when Jake and Holt destroyed most of his criminal enterprise in the season 3 finale, but he masked his voice and phoned in a death threat to Jake, which resulted in Jake and Holt winding up in witness protection in Florida.
Roberts — whose film credits includes The Dark Knight, Runaway Train, and Star 80 — will actually be heard before he will be seen on the Fox comedy: He has a voice cameo in the second episode of season 4, and he’ll physically appear in the third episode. “Figgis becomes aware of their presence in Florida and the clock starts ticking,” executive producer Dan Goor tells EW. “They know that he is on his way down.”
