8th August 2016 - Man of Steel Sequel in Active Development
Fresh off the success of Suicide Squad’s opening weekend, Warner Bros. is looking to continue the Man of Steel franchise by committing to developing a sequel to the 2013 film that grossed $670 million worldwide, according to a source close to the project.
Warner Bros. declined to comment. The news was first reported by The Wrap.
No writer or director has yet been hired by the studio to pursue the film but sources says the studio is eager to do so, as they are with all of their DC Comics characters.
The question now is what story they will pursue? Despite Superman’s purported demise in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League director Zack Snyder confirmed last month at Comic-Con that Henry Cavill’s Superman will return to the ensemble project to help his superhero pals, including Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Flash. It was also revealed that the troop would be out to defeat villain Steppenwolf. But no details have yet been shared to suggest what plot line a second standalone Superman movie would revolve around.
