  • 02:30 - Lethal Weapon - Jason Derulo to Guest
    Jason Derulo is looking to punch up the debut of Lethal Weapon in a big way: The singer-songwriter has been cast as a boxer in one of the drama’s early episodes, EW has learned exclusively.

    Derulo will play Ronald Dawson, an up-and-coming light heavyweight boxer who “knows how to throw a mean left hook and a raging party. Dawson’s never shy about putting his toned physique on display, which, in combination with his winning smile, means one or several ladies are never far off,” according to Fox.

    Dawson meets detectives Murtaugh (Damon Wayans Sr.) and Riggs (Clayne Crawford) when gunshots go off at a party at his Hollywood Hills rental. Derulo’s episode will air Sept. 28.

  • 02:25 - The Nutcracker - Disney's Live Action Adaptation Casts Mackenzie Foy as the Lead
    Young Interstellar star Mackenzie Foy has been cast as lead character Clara in Disney's live-action The Nutcracker.

    Lasse Hallström is directing the film, which is based on The Nutcracker and the Mouse King by E.T.A. Hoffmann.

    Ashleigh Powell wrote the script for the project, which is produced by Mark Gordon and executive produced by Lindy Goldstein.

    The story, set at Christmas time, follows a young girl named Clara whose favorite toy, a Nutcracker, comes alive. After he defeats the Mouse King, he whisks Clara away to a magical kingdom inhabited by dolls. The story inspired the iconic ballet, which featured one of Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s most famous compositions.

    Sam Dickerman and Allison Erlikhman are overseeing the project for Disney, while Sara Smith is overseeing for The Mark Gordon Company.

    Misty Copeland has already been cast to play the lead ballerina role in the sole dance sequence in the film. The project is eyeing a fall start.

    Foy will be in nearly every scene of the film playing the young protagonist. Foy was previously seen playing Renesmee, the love child of Edward and Bella, in the Twilight franchise. She also starred in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar and voices a character in The Little Prince.

  • 22:00 - Geoff Johns Promoted to President of DC Entertainment

    The ascension of Geoff Johns at DC Entertainment continues.

    Following initial online reports, The Hollywood Reporter can confirm that Johns now holds the title of President & Chief Creative Officer at the Warner Bros. division, answerable to Diane Nelson, who remains as President of DC Entertainment, President of Warner Bros. Consumer Products and President and Chief Content Officer of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

    Johns received the new title when he was promoted to head up DC's movie division alongside Jon Berg back in May. Already on board to develop the standalone Batman movie with Ben Affleck, it has since been revealed that Johns co-wrote the screenplay for Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman with Allan Heinberg, from a story by Johns, Heinberg and Zack Snyder.

    The new position comes six years after Johns — whose comic book writing resume includes a 50-issue stint on Justice League and lengthy runs on Green Lantern, The Flash and Justice Society of America — was named as the CCO of DC Entertainment, a position which saw him involved in the development of TV shows including The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow in addition to DC's growing movie slate.

  • 02:00 - Superior Donuts - Judd Hirsch to Co-Star in CBS Comedy Pilot
    Veteran actor Judd Hirsch has been tapped as the co-lead opposite Jermaine Fowler in CBS’ multi-camera comedy pilot Superior Donuts. After the end of this past pilot season, where Superior Donuts was in serious consideration for a series pickup with the network very high on Fowler, CBS ordered a new pilot for the project, recasting one of the two leads.

    Written and executive produced by Neil Goldman & Garrett Donovan and Bob Daily based on the play by Tracy Letts, Superior Donuts follows the relationship between the owner of a donut shop, Arthur (Hirsch), his new young employee (Fowler) and their patrons in a gentrifying neighborhood of Chicago. In the original pilot, the role was played by Brian d’Arcy James.

    In addition to Fowler and Hirsch, the cast of Superior Donuts also includes Maz Jobrani, David Koechner and Rell Battle who was promoted from a guest star in the original pilot.

  • 22:20 - The Deuce - Will Chase Joins HBO Series
    Nashville alum Will Chase has booked a recurring role on The Deuce, HBO’s upcoming drama series starring James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

    Written by The Wire creator David Simon and longtime collaborator George Pelecanos and directed by Michelle MacLaren, The Deuce follows the story of the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York’s Times Square from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s, exploring the rough-and-tumble world that existed there until the rise of HIV, the violence of the cocaine epidemic, and the renewed real estate market ended the bawdy turbulence.

    Chase will play a recently divorced father.

    Breaking Bad alumna Emily Rios and Michael Hyatt (Ray Donovan) are the latest to sign on as series regulars in FX’s Snowfall, John Singleton’s 1980s cocaine-epidemic drama pilot. Co-created and executive produced by the Boyz N The Hood director Singleton and Erick Amadio, and directed by El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the pilot has been undergoing a revamp.

    Rios will play Lucia, the self-possessed daughter of a Mexican crime family that imports and sells marijuana throughout Los Angeles. Hyatt will portray Sharon “Cissy” Saint, he no-nonsense mother of Franklin (Damson Idris). Frustrated in both her personal and professional lives, Cissy has sacrificed her dreams to give Franklin opportunities she never had.

    Writer-director Garry Marshall, whose deft touch with comedy and romance led to a string of TV hits that included "Happy Days" and "Laverne & Shirley" and the box-office successes "Pretty Woman" and "Runaway Bride," has died. He was 81.

    Marshall died Tuesday in at a hospital in Burbank, California, of complications from pneumonia after having a stroke, his publicist Michelle Bega said in a statement.

    The director also had an on-screen presence, using his New York accent and gruff delivery in colorful supporting roles that included a practical-minded casino boss unswayed by Albert Brooks' disastrous luck in "Lost in America" and a crass network executive in "Soapdish."

    J. Quinton Johnson (Dirty Dancing), Nick Stevenson (Pete Harper, Orange Is The New Black) and Elizabeth Frances (Drunktown’s Finest) have booked recurring roles opposite Pierce Brosnan in AMC’s upcoming drama series The Son.

    Based on the book by Philipp Meyer and written by Meyer, Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, The Son is a multi-generational epic tale of the story of America’s birth as a superpower through the bloody rise and fall of one Texas family.

    Johnson will play Neptune, the McCullough’s trusted ranch hand who is fiercely loyal to Eli McCullough (Brosnan). Stevenson is Fred Bernhauer, a handsome, powerful businessman interested in the oil prospects of the McCulloughs. Frances will portray Prairie Flower, a member of the Comanche tribe and Eli’s first love. At first, she sees Eli as nothing more than a slave, but once he is fully integrated into the tribe, she is the first to notice there is something more to him.

    Joy Osmanski has booked a major recurring role opposite Timothy Olyphant and Drew Barrymore on Santa Clarita Diet, Netflix’s upcoming single-camera comedy series from creator Victor Fresco, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and Tracy Katsky’s Kapital-based KatCo.

    In Santa Clarita Diet, Joel (Olyphant) and Sheila (Barrymore) are husband and wife realtors leading vaguely discontented lives in the L.A. suburb of Santa Clarita, until Sheila goes through a dramatic change sending both their lives down a road of death and destruction — but in a good way. Osmanski will play Alondra. She and her husband Rick are Joel (Olyphant) and Sheila’s (Barrymore) other next door neighbors. Alondra is quiet and reserved, and works for the city in an office job where she stays under the radar. She and Rick recently had a baby.

    Osmanski will next be seen in TV Land’s Younger. Her other recent TV work includes Freeform/ABC Family pilot Gorgeous Morons, Fox’s Lucifer and Lifetime’s Devious Maids.

    Felisha Terrell (Survivors Remorse) is set as the female lead in WGN America’s drama pilot Roadside Picnic, an alien saga based on the famous novel by top Soviet/Russian science fiction writers Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. Written by Transcendence scribe Jack Paglen, with Terminator: Genisys and Game of Thrones helmer Alan Taylor attached to direct and Neal Moritz producing, Roadside Picnic explores a near-future world where aliens have come and gone, leaving humankind to explore the wondrous and dangerous mysteries left behind. The story also explores the social ramifications of their visit, as seen through the eyes of Red (Matthew Goode), a veteran “stalker” who has made it his mission to illegally venture into the once inhabited zone and scavenge the abandoned remains of the alien culture.

    Terrell will play Red’s wife Guta, a tough, street-wise woman who never fell to the trappings of her beauty. She tries her best to normalize their family life in the complicated situation they are dealt with. Terrell also recurs on the upcoming season of Starz’s Survivor’s Remorse, which returns on July 24.

    Amanda Plummer (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) has joined the cast of Citizen, Hulu’s supernatural drama pilot from Me and Earl and the Dying Girl director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, Paramount TV and Anonymous Content. Set against the backdrop of a vibrant, “supernaturalized” Los Angeles, Citizen is a hero origin story, blending gritty vigilantism with elements of magical realism.

    Plummer will play Kollias, a shifty desperado who enjoys playing fast and loose with people’s comfort levels. Gomez-Rejon will direct the pilot and serve as executive producer alongside Nicholas Schutt, Josh Pate and Anonymous Content’s David Kanter, Matt DeRoss and Steve Golin.

  • 23:30 - The Mist - Okezie Morro, Darren Pettie, Russell Posner, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Gus Birney, Dan Butler, Luke Cosgrove and Danica Curcic Join Spike's Stephen King TV Adaptation
    Spike is building out the cast for its straight-to-series drama The Mist, based on the Stephen King novella, adding eight actors ahead of start-of-production later this summer. Joining the cast are Okezie Morro, Darren Pettie, Russell Posner, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Gus Birney, Dan Butler, Luke Cosgrove and Danica Curcic.

    The Mist, from TWC-Dimension Television, tells the story of a foreboding mist that arrives in one small town ushering in a terrifying new reality for its residents, putting their humanity to the test. What will people do to survive when blinded by fear?

    Pettie plays Connor Heisel the local alpha male, town sheriff and father to local football superstar Jay. He struggles to maintain order in an increasingly chaotic and dangerous situation, finding himself up against many who have it out for his accused son. Pettie’s latest film, The Scarecrow, premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. In television, Pettie was last seen on The Good Wife.

    Morro is Jonah Dixon,” a military man with amnesia. He can’t remember who he is. As the truth about his identity unravels, shocking secrets will be revealed. Morro’s film credits include Red Tails and World War Z, and TV credits include MTV’s Shuga and BBC’s New Tricks.

    Posner will play Adrian Garff, an insecure young teenager who comes to the defense of his best friend Alex, after she is the victim of a brutal crime. A witness to the crime, he finds himself at the center of a controversy which threatens to rip apart the community. Russell Posner starred in 2015 Sundance pic The D Train, and had supporting roles in Louder Than Bombs and John Turturo’s Fading Gigolo with Woody Allen.

    Whitlock, Jr. is Gus Redman, a local mall manager. When a new society forms from the mist survivors at the mall, Gus will have to decide if he will take the role of leader and exactly how far he will go to keep order. Whitlock recently completed filming Warner Bros Chips, directed by Dax Shepard, and indie film Human People.

    Birney plays Alex Cunningham, the teenage daughter of Kevin and Eve Cunningham. She’s always been the ‘good daughter,’ but her over-protective mother helps to kick-start a rebellious streak. Birney is currently appearing in The Rose Tattoo at the Williamstown Theater Festival opposite Marisa Tomei.

    Butler is Father Romanov, a priest who is caught in between modernity and tradition, he has lost his faith but clings to the ritual. Butler’s credits include Silence of the Lambs, Crazy, Stupid Love, Frasier and Prayers for Bobby.

    Cosgrove is Jay Heisel,” a popular local football superstar and the son of the town sheriff who finds himself accused of a heinous crime. This is Cosgrove’s first television role.

    Curcic plasy Mia Lambert, a drug-addicted woman on the run and in search of a mysterious stash of money. Curcic’s upcoming films include the WWII drama Across the Waters and Darling and Norwegian TV series Nobel.
