Rizzoli and Isles 708

Written by Jan Nash

Directed by Angie Harmon

I was looking for a great Rizzoli and Isles episode with everything I love about the show, the 100th Episode did not disappoint. As mentioned in my preview Angie Harmon directed and we had some truly emotionally charged scenes which lead to what I am sure affects Jane ‘s decision about her future by the end of the episode.
Maura is also starting something new as she show’s Jane her first chapter of a novel which could maybe lead to a new chapter in her life as well.
We are slowly saying goodbye but I don’t want to let go just yet.

Firstly, though they have a case to solve but in pursuit of justice, the price might be too high for those closest to Jane when once again she puts herself in danger.

Two guys are working in a mechanics shop when they receive an unexpected visitor who blows them both away with a shotgun.

At Jane’s place Maura is going through some photo’s it seems Jane wants some to decorate her new place.
All seem to be Maura, with Angela or Frankie but Jane isn’t in the photo’s as she was working.
In front of Jane is chapter 1 of Maura’s novel, which Jane really likes, she takes a quick selfie of her and Maura to commemorate the occasion and a photo of an event when she was actually there.

At the crime scene, they find two dead bikers and a hidden panel in the shop full of guns and lipstick smudge on the biker.

Back at BPD Maura explains if the firearms have had the serial numbers removed they still might get something from them.
However, they don’t believe the lipstick is the biker’s( obviously not his colour)

The two victims were tied to a street gang known as the Lords of Thunder who have links to organized crime.
While the lipstick smudge gives them DNA of a woman with past connections to the biker gang she may not have pulled the trigger but could be a witness.

Nina and Frankie go to her place but she isn’t there. As walking away they spot her, Frankie gives chase getting taken down by a trash can lid and Nina seems unsettled when she draws her weapon to subdue the suspect.

The suspect won’t talk to as association with the gang has violated her parole so Korsak sends her back to prison (Supergirl fans may recognize Britt Morgan as the actress who played Live Wire in Supergirl).

Maura has gotten a partial print off one of the guns, Kent wonders if he is in Maura’s novel but don’t make him English as he would never live it down, very funny Kent but true.

Nina was spooked seeing Frankie get hurt and unfortunately Frankie doesn’t deal with the situation very well. We all remember her previous boyfriend died on her beat.

Jane and Korsak interview the owner of the print from the gun and an Albanian gun dealer but get nothing.

Kelly Wagner though sent back to jail doesn’t seem a likely suspect but already she is trying to hire someone to kill someone . Jane decides to get herself arrested to get to her.

Maura gives Jane a temp tattoo to help her cover and Korsak has arranged for anyone who could possibly ID her to be moved. I love the little speech about her tough veneer.

Angela comes in with some photos for Jane and Jane has to tell her what is going on. This is a great scene with Angela finally snapping, she lets it fly about Korsak’s wedding and her break up with Ron, saying Jane’s actions have consequences for the rest of them. (I would have added in Maura’s kidnapping as well).

Kent tells Frankie the Albanian they have in custody had blood and laundry detergent on his shoes but wasn’t a match to any of their two victims sending Frankie looking for murders with that link.

Jane is decked out in her prison scrubs and being transported, she is instructed only two guards know who she is and they come up with a safe word for when she wants out. Korsak states she shouldn’t be in more than two days otherwise, it’s too dangerous.

As Jane goes inside and the doors close you can imagine the Wentworth theme playing not the new one but the original.

The next day while in line for what we assume is breakfast an older prisoner speaks to Jane advising her to take a biscuit. She is played by none other than Sharon Gless and for some reason, we never to get to know her name!

Jane spies Kelly who seems to be getting some unwanted attention, Jane gets surly at the attention she is getting and makes a point of telling the older inmate to leave her alone.

At BPD Kent has found a match to the murder and detergent, Maura wants him to check for other theatrical type murders, after all, stuffing someone in a dryer is kind of making a point. She notices Angela in her office who asks her if she has heard from Jane and Maura does her best to console her. A role she has done before.

Jane once again is getting attention from the older inmate who only wants someone to talk to her. Jane is watching Kelly who isn’t having an easy time, seems two inmates have taken a shine to her. Jane makes it look like she inadvertently helped which doesn't go unnoticed.

Korsak tells Maura about more theatrical murders, which are linked to the Albanians, but not the two bikers who were murdered. Maura asks if heard anything from Jane to which Korsak replays he hasn’t but will let her know when he does.

Frankie talks to Nina as well about recent events stating he understands where she is coming from but just because she is feeling again she can’t shut everyone out.

Back at the county jailhouse and inmate Rizzoli once again needs to protect Kelly as the two inmates follow her into the bathrooms. Jane gets argumentative when one of them stops her going in . Jane gets hit but she quickly puts the two inmates down. Of course, it’s prison so they both slipped Kelly is grateful but once again Jane shrugs it off as nothing.

Later Jane calls Maura who tells her to be careful but explains they have nothing regarding the Biker murders their end.

It's no surprise Kelly approaches Jane, she wanted a gun for hire and after Jane’s display, she knows she can take care of herself. The person she wants killing is Jeffrey Morgan known as Snake and is a member of the biker Gang the lords of thunder. She will pay Jane to kill him.

Jane says the safe word and is soon out of prison and we can guess this Snake guy is the killer.

As Maura arrives the next morning (again just walking in we assume the both have keys to each other’s places) she hugs Jane glad she is ok but can’t help but notice the large bruise on the side of her head from the hit she took. Jane tells her Angela is ignoring her calls, which Maura responds she will come around ‘it’s hard to worry about your loved ones when all you want to do is protect them’
This gives Jane an idea and she rushes them both off to work.

Jane has the theory they missed something regarding Kelly’s family in the background check she wasn’t just a foster kid and turns up she was in fact protecting her half sister who witnessed the murders.
Kelly is surprised to see Jane the other side of the table but she tells them where she arranged to meet her sister to which they have a little luck. What if the murder had taken her phone from her apartment to lure her sister somewhere thinking it was Kelly.

This lead checks out and with the help of special guest star Daisy Harmon (Angie’s own dog), she introduces herself to the sister as they catch’ Snake’ who was about to meet her.

AT BPD Kelly thanks Jane for giving her a second chance and they are both placed in Witness protection.
Jane also has a surprise visitor in the older inmate. Jane helped her get out earlier seems she wrote a bad check.
I was a little disappointed Sharon Gless didn’t have more scenes but it was lovely to see her in Rizzoli and Isles.

Jane goes to the dirty robber to speak with Angela who is still mad but admits maybe she said some things she shouldn’t have but is not ready to talk about it so Jane just tells her she loves her.

Back at Jane’s with cheese and wine they talk about what has happened Jane feels like things are changing, Korsak is retiring, Frankie has found a serious relationship. Maura notes Jane has changed too wouldn’t have been so accommodating to Angela years ago instead told her to mind her own business it’s her life. Maura leaves and Jane calls Agent Davis from last week’s episode to talk about the teaching position it would appear he offered her.

I applaud Angie Harmon for this episode as she did a stellar job both on and off camera the emotions were raw and each scene not only played towards solving the crime but set the tone of what’s to come. Unfortunately a few gaps in the script made for a choppy story regarding certain elements of the crime.

What were your thoughts on the episode?

Can you see Jane leaving BPD to go to Quantico?
Could Maura become a famous mystery author?
