Production has begun in Toronto on Ransom, the 13-episode drama created by David Vainola (Combat Hospital) and Frank Spotnitz. From eOne, Spotnitz’s Big Light Productions, Sienna Films and Wildcats Productions, the series has added principal cast to join Luke Roberts as hostage negotiator Eric Beaumont. Sarah Greene (Penny Dreadful) will play Maxine Carlson, a young newcomer eager to prove herself; Brandon Jay McLaren (The Killing, Chicago Fire) is Oliver Yates, a psychological profiler; and Nazneen Contractor (Heroes Reborn) is set as ex-cop Zara Hallam.
Ransom follows expert crisis and hostage negoatiator Beaumont, whose team is brought in to save lives when no one else can. He understands criminals better than they do, and uses his insight into human behavior to resolve the most difficult cases. Despite the stakes, Eric refuses to resort to violence. While his considerable powers of manipulation make him the best at what he does professionally, they often complicate his relationships with family, friends and colleagues.

Penny Dreadful star Sarah Greene, Brandon Jay McLaren and Nazneen Contractor have joined the cast for the CBS drama Ransom, alongside Luke Roberts.
The Entertainment One drama series has also brought Germany's RTL on board as a broadcast partner, along with TF1 in France and Global Television in Canada. Greene will play Maxine Carlson, a young newcomer eager to prove herself, while Graceland actor Jay McLaren is Oliver Yates, a psychological profiler.
Ransom will also star 24's Nazneen Contractor as ex-cop Zara Hallam. Her casting follows Contractor, who appeared in the backdoor pilot for the Dick Wolf spinoff Chicago Justice, now exiting the forthcoming NBC legal drama.
Black Sails actor Luke Roberts was earlier announced to star. Co-created and exec produced by Frank Spotnitz (The X-Files, Man in the High Castle) and David Vainola (Combat Hospital), Ransom is inspired by the professional experiences of crisis negotiator Laurent Combalbert, who with his partner, Marwan Mery, are among the top negotiators in the world.
Together they travel around the globe to help multinational corporations and governmental agencies with complex negotiations and conflict resolution. Ransom is a Canada-France treaty co-production.
