Killjoys - Meet the Parents - Advance Preview
Jul 29, 2016
Killjoys LM ReviewsKilljoys “Meet the Parents” was written by Adam Barken and directed by Jeff Renfroe, whose other credits include Houdini and Doyle, Beauty and the Beast, and Being Human. Interestingly, Barken also wrote episode five in the first season! This is another pretty intense episode with the action taking place on two fronts and the major season arcs seeing some developments.
The episode begins in Old Town as Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen) and D’Avin (Luke Macfarlane) are executing a warrant on two very interesting characters. D’Avin drops by the Royale afterwards to say hello to Sabine (Tori Anderson), who he seems to have an interest in… their “date” doesn’t go as planned.
Meanwhile, John (Aaron Ashmore) is once again off helping Pawter (Sarah Power). As the title would suggest, we get to meet some parents in this episode, including seeing Pawter’s father, Weymer (Andrew Gillies) again. The episode includes one of the most awkward family dinners ever. The butler, in particular, has a shattering experience.
D’Avin ends up improvising at a bad time. There are two good fight scenes, the second of which is quite good. D’Avin also demonstrates an affinity for music.
Dutch ends up being only a slightly better judge of character than Fancy (Sean Baek). Fancy gets a several shocks as the episode unfolds. Pawter has to act quickly to lend a hand. We get some answers as to why D’Avin was immune. John has to make a choice. Dutch comes to some important realizations.
It’s pretty clear by the end of the episode how the season is going to end. And finally, someone goes skinny dipping in this episode. To finish, here are some dialogue teasers… in no particular order…
Why do my teeth ache?
I was a carpenter once.
When is a daughter not welcome home?
So much water it’s like being licked by angels.
I’m right here. You just have to let me in.
Push back. Improvise.
Use the science. Help the others.
Sometimes we have choices, and sometimes we don’t.
Professional opinion? I don’t like the look of that fog.
I have to stop that bomb.
To protect what you love, you must become something that you hate.
Be a bit more explain-y.
They serve drinks in pine cones. How cute is that?
This is flirting? Because I remember it being less uncomfortable.
Let’s go meet the family!
The last time your head went weird, you tried to kill me.
Your reaction to this is exactly what we’re looking for.
You are welcome to step outside and find some other technology.
When you love two people equally, you have to make a choice. You have to choose the one who makes you a better man.
