Dark Matter - Kill Them All - Advance Preview: "High-Stakes"
Jul 8, 2016
AM Dark Matter ReviewsThe season premiere set the pace for the season and it doesn't seem prepared to let up anytime soon. After that shocking end from the season premiere I know that everyone wants me to confirm that the show pulled some sort of sly slide of hand and One is happily still alive. Sadly, I cannot do that, it would appear that what we saw at the end of the last episode was everything it seemed. One's death will be revealed to his crewmates and while his death does have an impact it is far from the focus of the episode. The one thing that is certain is that One's death does seem poised to propel at least a portion of the story this season. Is his death a hard thing to accept? Yes, it is, but his death seems part of a grander plan and I'm excited to see how it all plays out.
At the end of the last episode, the crew seemed more determined than ever to find a way to escape Hyperion-8. With Two newly reinvigorated thanks to Nyx and the crew armed with security details thanks to Four the team is well on their way to a plan, but don't expect things to go smoothly. In order for them to be successful, and there is no guarantee they are, a lot of things will have to go right for them and almost immediately things start to go horribly wrong. They have galactic sized targets on their backs and are sitting ducks in the prison, so expect more than a few dangerous encounters to come their way.
Elsewhere in the prison, Shaddick is determined to use Five against her friends. However, she seriously underestimates the youngest member of the crew; Five is strong-willed and has learned a lot from her Raza-family, so she won't make things easy for Shaddick. But, Shaddick also has no interest in making things easy for Five. It is a battle of wills and each has everything to lose, so look for these women to challenge one another in big ways. When she's not busy with Five, Shaddick will be spending time with each member of the crew trying to turn them against one another by proposing some interesting deals. Will the crew be divided by her? You will definitely want to watch to find out.
Not all of the crew make it out of this episode injury free and many of them will be forever changed by the things that transpire. One character delivers such a shocking order that you'll be expecting it to be a bad practical joke, but I assure you the order is very serious and very real. The action in this episode is intense and the stakes are high. As if the crew doesn't have enough to worry about look for old "friends" and new enemies to make themselves known and cause more than a few headaches. This is an episode that can't be missed.
This high-stakes episode was written by Co-Creator/Executive Producer Joseph Mallozzi and expertly directed by Bruce McDonald. Be sure to watch this episode on Syfy in the US and Space in Canada this Friday, July 8th at 10/9c.
Here are some quotes to tide you over.
"Because you're obviously an incredible bitch."
"Your extra pillow and a hug goodbye."
"I thought laundry duty was bad."
"I've also been told I chewy with my mouth open. What's your point?"
"Help me!"
Yesterday I had the honor of interviewing Co-Creator/Executive Producer Joseph Mallozzi, and during the interview I challenged him to describe each of the six main characters with an animal. So, for the next few weeks, I'm going to reveal an animal in my previews and I challenge all of you to figure out what character it is referring to. I'll reveal the answer and his reasoning for picking that animal in the review for this episode.
First up: Mother Bear
Leave your guesses down in the comments as to what character this animal is referring to and why he picked it for that character. The winners earn bragging rights.
Look for the first part of this multi-part interview to be released on Friday night sometime after the episode airs. I promise, the things he reveals are things every fan of this show wants to know.
