EXCLUSIVE: Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck has signed a deal to return for Season 7 of the CBS cop drama, which begins production today.
The veteran actor plays Police Commissioner Frank Reagan on the show about a multigenerational family of cops dedicated to New York City law enforcement. Heading both the police force and the Reagan brood, Frank runs his department as diplomatically as he runs his family, even when dealing with the politics that plagued his father (Len Cariou) during his stint as chief. Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynihan, Will Estes, Amy Carlson, Marissa Ramirez, Tony Terraciano, Andrew Terraciano and Sami Gayle also star.
Despite airing on the low-trafficked Friday night, Blue Bloods was the fifth most watched broadcast drama series for the 2015-16 season. It averaged 13.1 million viewers while winning its time period in viewers, adults 18-49 (1.8 rating) and adults 25-54 (2.6). Blue Bloods is Friday’s most-watched scripted series since Law & Order: SVU in 2002-03, per CBS.
Additionally, Blue Bloods, produced by CBS Television Studios, is a big international seller and important asset for the studio and parent company CBS Corp. It is licensed in more than 200 territories and is streamed on all three major services: Netflix, Amazon and Hulu.
