Behind Enemy Lines, a drama series project based on the movie starring Owen Wilson and Gene Hackman, is back in development at Fox with a new writer. The network, which was high on mounting an adaptation last year, giving the project a put pilot commitment, is taking a new stab at the concept, to be written by Nikki Toscano.
Back for the new version are original auspices 20th Century Fox TV, whose feature sibling was behind the movie, studio-based Temple Hill (Revenge) as well as Davis Entertainment (The Blacklist), which produced the feature.
Inspired by the film, the new version of Behind Enemy Lines, described as a high-octane military thriller, takes place in the midst of critical peace negotiations between the U.S. and Russia as three American soldiers are shot down behind enemy lines in Eastern Ukraine. Last season, the script, which did not go to pilot, was written by Jeffrey Nachmanoff.
This is the second movie adaptation that the broadcast networks are revisiting this season. The CW is commissioning a new script for The Notebook, originally developed last season.
