2016 Character Cup - Rankings and Prediction Contest

Jul 21, 2016

The nominations and rankings are done and now the real fun begins. Below you will find a complete list of characters that made it into the 2016 Character Cup, the official brackets, and homework.  (This should be the last post with a lot of information thrown at you.  Woo hoo!)  For those of you who are new to the Character Cup, one additional piece of fun is the prediction contest. How well do you think you know the SpoilerTV community? Whether you think you do or not, the prediction contest is a lot of fun.  This is your chance to guess which characters will win each round. Remember the prediction contest is about who you think will win, NOT who you want to win. Like last year we are using Challonge to run the prediction contest. You may have to sign up to use it (not quite sure), but it is completely free.  You have until 8 pm CST on Thursday, July 21 to complete your prediction.  To participate, go here:

Prediction Contest:

1. Only one prediction per person. If you would like to also create one on how you wish the contest would turn out, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
2. When titling your prediction, please use your Disqus name (or SpoilerTV name) so I know whose brackets are whose.
3. Your predictions can be saved and edited up until predictions close, but to do so you must copy and paste a very, very long link in order to find your prediction again. It will only show up once so if you even think you might be changing your predictions, I highly suggest saving the link somewhere. I will not be able to find the link for you.
4. All predictions must be finalized by 8 pm CST on Thursday, July 21 to be eligible. Once the contest starts, no other predictions will be accepted.
5. Challonge has a weighted scale so correct guesses in the first round are worth 1 point, the second round 2 points, and so on until the 5th and final round.
6. After every round, I will post our winners so far. The grand prize winner wins…bragging rights. Hey, I'm a teacher. I can't afford cool prizes. Unless you love Supernatural and then I have some leftover prizes you can win.

Official Brackets:

If you click full screen, you can see everything.  To print out a bracket with the names on it already, click the down arrow under the brackets.  This will allow you to download and then print the bracket.  Scribd however can be a pain and only allows a certain number of downloads so if you have access to a copier, that is your best bet for multiple copies if you need them.  Scribd may also ask you to create a free account.  If you cannot print via the brackets below, you can print a blank copy of the brackets and fill in the names yourself by clicking here.  Fillable brackets are here.  (Hint - download it before you fill it out or it won't keep what you typed.  Learned from experience...again.)  Reminder, Shaw and Snow will have a buy in the first round so they will automatically go to round 2.  All characters that are played by the same actor will go against each other in the first round.  That includes Lexa, Alicia Clark, Sharon Raydor, Laura Roslin, Eliot Spencer, and Jake Stone.

Picture Homework:

The first round will probably start on Friday to give everyone ample time to get their prediction brackets in and to put the final touches on our TV Talk Topics. Until then, I'm assigning homework. Ugh, I know. What do you expect? I'm a teacher. I need good headshot pictures of the characters that are in the contest. Otherwise your favorite character is stuck with the first picture I find on Google. Since all the characters are now revealed, it's a great time to start looking. The guidelines are below. You can send them to me via Twitter @dahne1 or simply put them in the comments below. Thanks in advance for your help in this.

Picture Guidelines:

1. Must be clothed and PG please!
2. Clearly shows the character's face
3. Is just the character and not a group thing
4. Must be the character and not the actor (no premiere party or tabloid photos)
5. No gifs - jpeg or png only please

Picture Updates:

A huge thanks to everyone who found and posted pictures here, on Twitter, and through e-mail. You guys rock! You have been a huge timesaver for me. Because of you, we have at least one picture for each character. Woo hoo! We usually try to get 3-5 of each character to start in case a couple of pictures don't work with the polling software parameters so if you want to add more, please do so.
