Wynonna Earp - She Wouldn't Be Gone - Review: A Big Disappointment to a Huge Reveal

After a string of above average to some real strong episodes we finally reached the dud of the season. 'She Wouldn't Be Gone' this week was, to summarize, a big disappointment to a huge reveal.

It turns out Bobo has an enemy among his own kind, an apparently intimidating force of nature named Lou. However, this revenant ended up to be like any other regular reverent just with an added creep factor. Lou randomly collects girls in a Charles Manson, cult like fashion and he has a skin walker as a "secret weapon." Why he collects girls and what his motivations are is anyones guess and we will never know as he died as fast as he was introduced.

The skin walker ended up to be not so intimidating and not as much of a threat compared to other foes Wynonna faced off against, and how about that bear?! It moved like one of those mechanical bears you see in fairs, and yes there is limited budget, but c'mon, this show has had more convincing CGI in previous episodes. That wolf, for one, was kind of scary and realistic looking.

Speaking of the wolf, it is also revealed that Dolls is super fast, how else would he escape the creature that was standing on top of the car he is sitting in? If it turns out he isn't super fast, then add that as a plot hole.

Meanwhile, Tim Rozon did not have much to work with in this episode as Doc. His character got to drive for the first time in his new pink mustang, allowing some opportunity to explore his ineptitude to control an automobile, which they missed out on. Anyways, his storyline ends this week with him heartbroken, after Wynonna told him there is no "them," and he leaves driving off into the sunset.

With Doc dealing with his own issues, we got some more time with Dolls and Earp. There were a couple teases with Dolls going in a little too close, only to be rejected. This slow burn has been a definite positive, it is good to see they are not rushing into what will become the main relationship that will drive this show. The building of their relationship was one of only two positives in a filler episode full of negatives.

The second positive was the big reveal at the end. It turns out Eve, one of Lou's girls, is Willa. That's a game changer. It will be interesting to see how she fits into the cast. Her inclusion feels rather unnecessary and it is hard to see her lasting long, but only time will tell. This reveal definitely shakes things up a bit.

Overall, 'She Wouldn't Be Gone' was by far the worst episode of the season. It was a mixture of an underdeveloped antagonist, plot holes, and missed opportunities on some could've been classic humour. It felt like the crew did not really care about this episode and it was just made and rushed through to pave way for the final minute when Willa was revealed.

Thanks to that ending though, the next episode titled 'Landslide' is a must see. With only three episodes left Wynonna Earp will surely get back to the quality we have come to expect. However, 'She Wouldn't Be Gone', a filler more than anything, has already been pushed to the wayside.

4/10
