This episode had everyone smiling with the lovely little Rizzoli and Isles scenes between the two leads. From Jane’s failure to identify Maura from behind at the beginning of the episode (and she calls herself a detective) to the scene in Maura’s office where she says she loves her for more than just her beautiful mind and sending back up at the end when Maura shows us something she isn't skilled at .
Angela once again proves Mama Rizzoli knows best this time in her advice to Vince Korsak over his less than romantic blender gift and not just content with being a whizz on the computer Nina Holiday lives up to her namesakes and takes to the Microphone for Karaoke night . This thankfully prevents Kent's rendition of Donald where’s your trousers.
Add guest star Yvette Nicole Smith as a feisty Postal inspector and it was perfect.
We start with a body being discovered in a car .Jane and Maura are soon called but first Jane is trying to find Maura at her fencing class, Maura is learning new things to help with her condition. (Hasn’t Maura mentioned she fenced in College before?). Props to Sasha Alexander on her fencing skills which we know from twitter she was taught for this episode.
Jane’s quip about “I didn’t know rich people had their own storm troopers” had me laughing and no wonder she wants Maura to change from her full sized thong before going to the crime scene. Maybe it's only evil villains in bond movies who can pull off that look!
At the crime scene it appears to be a suicide but as Jane and Korsak investigate the victim’s home they discover it ransacked and come face to face with a postal inspector.
CJ Prescott, played by Yvette Nicole Brown, is on the case seems something was amiss at the victims local sorting office.
Jane and her, butch it out at the new crime scene until she realises her guy is dead and believes another guy was murdered as well but it was made to look like an accident.
After checking with her bosses Jane and Korsak wonder is CJ being overzealous but when Maura’s forensic evidence proves it was murder not suicide they believe that CJ is on to something. Though Korsak is not happy about her calling him Silver fox !
CJ is feisty and a bit like an angry bear you don't want to poke with a stick at times. Jane for once seems to have met her match.
Meanwhile at the Dirty Robber Angela accidentally reveals Korsak’s unimpressive birthday present of a new blender to Kiki. We know Angela tends to poke her nose in but a Blender we know Vince can do better.
Kent’s concern over Maura continues and after a dizzy spell we can see his concerns are justified.
Korsak asks Maura if she can chase up the other victims autopsy report from New York.
Jane and Frankie go to the mail office where the Supervisor seems to take a keen interest in why they are investigating a suicide.( he might have well have handed over his confession right there). They recover the victim’s possessions from his locker.
Maura discovers what we all suspected that the other victim was not an accident but a murder as well. A peanut bar in the victim’s possessions, when we had previously learnt he had a peanut allergy, holds a postal barcode. Nina as usual works her magic and CJ does her best to try and recruit her, saying she deserves better. Nina doesn't look impressed by that comment!
The barcode leads to a false address on the packages which would be sent to a dead bin but who is retrieving the packages?
Angela does her best to dissuade Korsak from the blender saying Kiki deserves a more romantic gift and Kent tries to persuade Maura to go for surgery by giving her a list of neurosurgeons.
You see Maura struggling to try to find ways to heal herself, as I suspect the prospect of surgery is frightening.
The gang learns the packages land every Tuesday and Thursday so they stake out the location. No surprises it’s the Supervisor who makes a run for it but is stopped by Nina ( I like the fact she is stepping out from the BPD now).
Back at BPD, it doesn’t seem he is the mastermind of the operation and is actually in fear for his life, a bad situation put him in this predicament. When Maura informs Jane the hair they found in evidence is, in fact, a woman’s not a man’s they know the hunt is still on.
Jane has a heart to heart with Maura over the surgery. These two really know each other and once again show why they are the core of the show. Whatever is thrown their way they will get through it. Jane being Jane can’t help but add in she would have had to take in her mother if Maura hadn’t.
They gang once again set up a stakeout and this time, get the real mastermind who is taken out by CJ with a punch. Of course, now her bosses believe her and overzealous changes to good at her job.
We end with Kiki’s birthday party at the Robber. It seems Korsak took Angela’s advice on board.
Kent introduces the new Karaoke machine but thankfully is stopped singing as Maura is encouraged to sing but it isn’t where her talents lie and Nina soon comes to her aid. Yes Nina played by Idara Victor can indeed sing though I don't think the rest of the gang would make it past Simon Cowell.
All in all, this was a fun filled episode. The crime story seemed more the back story again as we focused on the characters. The CJ Prescott character played superbly by Yvette Nicole Brown had me laughing throughout and now I know a new phrase, rested bitch face!!
So what were your thoughts on the episode?
