Outcast - (I Remember) When She Loved Me - Advanced Preview

GN Outcast ReviewsPlot Synopsis: Kyle questions his family history.
I was fortunate enough to watch the second episode of the amazing new horror/drama series, Outcast, and what I can tell you is that plot synopsis they give does not even come close to depth of storytelling during the hour. Episode 1, "A Darkness Surrounds Him", aired last week to favorable reviews and it looked as though the ten episode first season would be filled with lots of scary moments and dark spirits. We definitely got our share of that last week with the exorcism of Joshua Austin.
This week you can expect the story to open up a little more as we learn more about Kyle's past. We don't get a lot of answers, but the few clues we do get will enlighten a little more of what is going on in and around Kyle Barnes' world. In episode one we did catch a glimpse of his mother, Sarah. We will see more of her in the episode coming up this Friday, but as we know from other shows shrouded in mystery the more answers you get the more questions fill the void. The first season is only ten episodes long, which, honestly, I wish most shows would only have ten to thirteen episode seasons. Expect answers to come quickly and the larger mystery to unravel at any moment with a short season.
One of the many things I enjoyed in this second episode is the addition of a second mystery. You will get to see more of the Chief of police and Mark, Megan's husband and Kyle's brother-in-law, as they investigate a crime of unusual origin out in the woods. That arc may only last a few episodes, but I love when shows have secondary and tertiary story arcs to compliment the main story.
Things To Notice
- There are quite a few flashback sequences in this episode. Some are long, but some are short. Pay attention because it tells a narrative by the end of the episode.
- We learn a little more about the connection between Kyle and Reverend Anderson in this episode.
- A new character enters the town of Rome that I recognize from the comics. Every episode is going to be ten times better as a result. I will talk more about this character in my Review so we can discuss theories then.
- Patrick Fugit (Kyle) and Philip Glenister (Reverend Anderson) are amazing actors. They make a perfect team on screen. They're subtle ways of showing the emotion of each character and their struggles is really interesting.
