CBS’ single-camera comedy pilot Furst Born remains in contention for midseason as the options on the entire cast have been extended. Furst Burn was one of two comedy pilots that CBS left in consideration for a series order after the upfronts, along with the multi-camera Jermaine Fowler starrer Superior Donuts, which is being re-piloted and partially recast. Both are eyeing a midseason 2017 berth. Additionally, conversations continue about hybrid pilot My Time/Your Time. I hear the plan is for it to be reworked by the same team, writer/executive producer Hilary Winston and exec producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, for the upcoming development season with a brand-new cast.
Furst Born, an adaptation of the Australian comedy Upper Middle Bogan, was conceived and originally written as single-camera. It was converted to hybrid but ultimately reverted to a single-camera format. Written and executive produced by Dan O’Shannon and Robyn Butler, Furst Born is about a wife and mother who learns she was adopted and that her birth parents are a flamboyant but loving family of drag racers. The cast includes Poppy Montgomery, Katey Sagal, John Carroll Lynch, Swoosie Kurtz, Brooke Elliott, Kelli Goss and Talitha Bateman. O’Shannon, Butler, Wayne Hope and Todd Holland, who directed the pilot, executive produce for ABC Studios, CBS TV Studios and Dark Toy Entertainment.
