ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: So the child is actually Olivia. What does this mean?
TERRY MATALAS: Her blood led to the reverse engineering of the Messengers, meaning they took her blood and were able to extract it and figure out how to make the 12 Messengers; which, in a weird way makes her her own mother. The DNA in her blood will create who we call Mantis (Scottie Thompson), who goes back in time to the ’40s, stays, and then offers her own eggs to be the beginning of the research to make the Messengers. Again, it’s another one of those time loops. That’s how it goes on this show.
Olivia lived her entire life believing in the word of the Witness, which ultimate lets her down. Is she considering switching allegiances?
It definitely feels as though she’s no longer on the side of the Witness. Whether or not that means she’s going to join Team Splinter, we’ll have to wait and see. But she’s definitely not on board with the Witness. Her whole life was basically engineered for this one mission that continually she’s lost faith in. She definitely was promised a paradise of some kind in this Red Forest. Once she’s realized it’s not going to happen, she’s going to look for answers elsewhere.
