The Flash - Invincible - Review : Meta Apocalypse

The Flash episode 222

Teleplay by Brooke Roberts & David Kob

Story By Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg

Directed by Jesse Warn

We start this week with Barry in an upbeat mood thinking he can conquer it all after his time in the speed force. Cisco gives the best description calling Barry 'Mr.Walking on sunshine' (Yes you can imagine he has the Katrina and the waves tune playing in his head while walking). With words of encouragement to the team like “we have got this” and as the title suggests he feels invincible.

The surprise return of Caitlin who seems a shadow of her former self is brilliantly portrayed by Dana Panabaker. She keeps seeing images of Zoom and is still traumatized by her experience.

In Central city, its war on the streets as Zoom has released his Meta army; we assume all are from Earth 2. The deadliest seems to be Laurel Lance Earth 2 doppelganger known as the Black Siren. The Black Siren is a Meta- human and has a sonic scream that can bring down buildings.
Zoom is using her as a distraction, for what we are not sure yet, but the clue could lie in Cisco’s visions.

One of the highlights of the episode for me is when Cisco and Caitlin dress up as their Earth 2 Doppelgangers, Killer Frost, and Reverb, to distract the Black Siren.

Everyone is concerned with Barry’s behaviour and even a near deadly showdown with the Black Siren does little to waver his resolve. Joe is concerned about his boys and ask Barry to talk to Wally. Wally seems to believe he is a have a go hero. Nothing can discourage him not even The Flash ,actually, it was lucky for Barry he was around to help him flee away from the Siren.

Soon the brilliant minds of Cisco and Wells, realise the new Meta’s, being from Earth 2 ,have a different frequency and they design a machine to knock them all unconscious and then Barry can contain them all.
The plan works well, unfortunately, Zoom creates a portal and escapes. They really didn’t think it would be that easy to catch him did they?

The gang all are about to eat dinner at Joe’s when Cisco gets a vibe of Earth 2 being destroyed. He is just explaining when Zoom appears taking Barry’s father Henry. Barry gives chase much to the shock of Wally West.

It’s no surprise they end up at Barry’s old home and Zoom saying Barry like him can watch someone he loves die and understand him. Despite the fact, he already has and took the path for good. Zoom wants The Flash to become like him and as he sticks his hand through Henry’s chest we all feel Barry’s pain.

I was beginning to wonder with the return of Barry’s father was it setting it up for his death and sadly I was right. Poor Barry seems to have finally got out of his funk again when bam let’s kill another of his parents.
Will he go back to wallowing, like this season he has done too much of in my opinion.

I think a lot watch The Flash for its lighter tone over its other CW counterpart. We have only seen the Flash in true character in the Supergirl crossover and with Supergirl now joining the CW line up if kept to what we have seen will be the lighter show.

Next week we are sure in for an epic finale with Zoom vs The Flash and left wondering will Barry cross the line and kill Zoom.

What were your thoughts on the episode?
