Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led the Tuesday overnights with ease, besting No. 2 NBC by 31 percent. But it was not a clean sweep. “NCIS” on CBS topped the evening with a 9.3 rating/15 share in households from 8-9 p.m., leading into spin-off “NCIS: New Orleans” at an also dominant 7.6/12 at 9 p.m. But the season-premiere of “Person of Interest” scored a second-place 4.8/ 8 at 10 p.m., which trailed competing “Chicago Fire” on NBC (#1: 5.4/ 9) by 11 percent. Regardless, the return of this final season of “Person of Interest” was 30 percent the season (or series) finale of former time period occupant “Limitless” last week (3.7/ 6 on April 26).
Earlier in the evening on NBC was a one-hour edition of “The Voice” at a 5.9/10 (#2) at 8 p.m., which should have no trouble leading the night in adults 18-49, followed by freshman “Chicago Med” at a 5.3/ 8 at 9 p.m. (#2).
Elsewhere, the household overnight results were sorely lacking. ABC opened the night with sophomore sitcom “Fresh Off the Boat” at a 2.9/ 3 at 8 p.m. (#3), which outdelivered competing “New Girl” on Fox (#5: 1.7/ 3) by 71 percent. Next on the alphabet net was recently introduced “The Real O’Neals” (#3: 2.2/ 4 at 8:30 p.m.), which slipped from “Fresh Off the Boat” by 24 percent. Comparably, however, that still beat competing “Grandfathered” on Fox (#5: 1.4/ 2) by 57 percent. At 9 p.m., “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” on ABC scored a typically lackluster 2.0/ 3 at 9 p.m. (#3) and it led into a mere 1.4/ 2 (#3) for sinking “Beyond the Tank” at 10 p.m.
Fox featured a second episode of “New Girl” at 9 p.m. (#4: 1.4/ 2) into a 1.1/ 2 (#4) for “The Grinder” at 9:30 p.m. Of the three on-the-fence Tuesday night sitcoms – “The Real O’Neals,” “Grandfathered” and “The Grinder” – “The Real O’Neals” has the best chance of a second season renewal.
On The CW, episode three of drama “Containment” (#5: 1.0/ 2 at 9 p.m.) only managed to hold 43 percent of the 2.3/ 4 in the household overnights for lead-in “The Flash” (#4: 2.3/ 4 at 8 p.m.).
