New Girl - Episode 5.21 - Review: "Wedding Eve"

"Blessings on all your households." On the penultimate episode of season 5, Jess and Nick launch a successful dinner rehearsal at the loft and separate Schmidt and Cece as they prepare for their imminent nuptials. I was happy to see things pick up from a happy place knowing the end was near. The main crux that came into play was Cece not approving of Schmidt and if she was going to show up in time for the wedding. But Jess discovers a wedding ring and assumes Sam is going to propose. Meanwhile, Winston happened to step on Schmidt's flash drive containing his wedding vows, so naturally he goes crazy. To curb the tension in the air, Jess initiates the long awaited return of..."True American!"

In classic True American fashion, nothing made sense, but the gang got trashed as they spouted random American figures' names and jumped around the loft. God, I've missed the sheer lunacy of True American and am so happy they finally brought it back out. Now, if only they could release a how to guide for house parties. And Coach!!! He showed up for the wedding, I was not expecting that. It was good to see him back at giving the gang help, like with Winston after he told Ally she'd make a great bride...definitely not the best thing to say, but you know he meant well. Meanwhile, Sam finally cornered Jess and let her know that he wanted to break up with her. There it is, I knew this wasn't going to last and with all the time devoted to their relationship, it was inevitable and such a waste.

However, the rest of the episode was fantastic. Winston confronted Ally and she said she loved him, obviously Winston reciprocated. Jess wished Sam good luck with his best friend Diane that he realized he was in love with while the ring belonged to Schmidt's mom who was going to ask her girlfriend to marry her. Classic romantic comedy clichés, but it all worked leading into the wedding. You could tell that Schmidt was going to make it his mission to get Cece's mom to the wedding after he proclaimed that all he wanted was for Cece to be happy. Sam explaining to Jess that she was in love with Nick was obvious and I knew it was going to happen...we all knew it was going to happen. SO on to the wedding!
