    Universal also announced Wednesday it has moved “Monster High” out of the Oct. 7, 2016, slot.

    Ari Sandel came on to direct “Monster High” in October. Neil Meron, Craig Zadan, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are producing the project, based on the line of Mattel toys undergoing the trials and tribulations of high school. “Monster High” has not been given a new date.

    Ari Sandel is in final negotiations with Universal Pictures to direct the movie adaptation of “Monster High,” sources confirm.

    The studio has been developing the project for some time with Neil Meron, Craig Zadan, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage and their Fake Empire shingle. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar penned the script with Schwartz and Savage.

    The female-skewing property focuses on the spawn of famous monsters, including Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolfman (Draculaura, Frankie Stein and Clawdeen Wolf, respectively) undergoing the trials and tribulations of high school.

    Mattel’s Playground Productions is executive producing.

    Universal Pictures has dated its “Monster High” movie for Oct. 7, 2016.

    The live-action adaptation of Mattel’s Monster High doll franchise is produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage under their Fake Empire banner along with Craig Zadan and Neil Meron via their Storyline Entertainment shingle.

    The story centers on teens finding their real identities while figuring out what to do with their secret ones at the secret academy Monster High. Schwartz and Savage are also writing the script.

  • 13th November 2013 - Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage to Write and Produce Live-Action Adaptation
    Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will write and produce the live-action adaptation of Mattel’s Monster High franchise for Universal Pictures.

    Plot details are unknown, except that the film will be based on the doll franchise, popular with teen and tween girls, that centers on the perfectly imperfect teenage children of the world’s most famous monsters.

    Schwartz and Savage will produce under their Fake Empire banner alongside Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who brought the project to the studio. Mattel’s Playground Productions is executive producing.

    Universal’s VP of production Maradith Frenkel and creative executive Chloe Yellin will oversee the project for the studio.
