Empire – More Than Kin – Review

May 9, 2016

These latest episodes of Empire have been really entertaining. I really enjoyed this second part of season 2 and More Than Kin was no exception. It’s another interesting episode, let’s see why.

This week’s episode introduces a new Lyon’s family member: Lucious’ mother. In a shocking moment, we find out that she is actually safe and sound. I am really interested by this new character. Thanks to the flashbacks, we have seen her past and she is just crazy enough to be entertaining and I want to see how the writers will handle the dynamics between mother and son.

Meanwhile Lucious and Cookie seem to rekindle their relationship, but we are still not sure about their real intentions. I would like to see them as a couple, at least for a little while, but you can never know what the Lyons are going for.

I didn’t like Hakeem. It was quite odd to see him once again getting closer to Lucious. Sometimes Empire just rushes reconciliation. After everything that happened between these two, it is quite strange to have them on the same page. Anika is now in the mix, but the writers don’t seem to think that Hakeem should figure out that it’s Lucious’ fault if she is derailing like this. She has been threatened, she has been cheated, she has suffered a lot. I am enjoying her character this season and I hope she is not guilty of Rhonda’s fall. She seems to be the obvious choice, and I really want a plot twist here. Empire can manage something else, something really surprising.

All in all, Empire seems to be back on track. There are just three episodes left, before the season finale and I am really looking forward to watching the ending of this season. Let’s hope for a juicy ending.
