Banshee - Truths Other Than the Ones You Tell Yourself - Advance Preview + Teasers
May 12, 2016
Banshee Reviews SSThe last week of the show is almost upon us, in just over eight days the final will be over and Banshee will close its doors for good. What happens between now and then isn’t going to be easy for our favourite characters, there’s a lot of soul searching, a few nasty fights, a couple of brutal takedowns, and some secrets to try and hold on to before this ride is over. One person barely makes it past the 30 second mark this week, their blood soaking the opening credits as a reminder of what’s yet to come. And yet, that’s not the most alarming Easter Egg in the title sequence…
As we saw, Dawson left a message for Hood telling him that Lilith set her bullshit meter running, but what she failed to do was say where the hell she lived when she went to interview her. Therefore when she’s reported missing, the only leads Brock can come with the hotel CCTV of her leaving and sending out every available man he has on to the streets. Luckily, Hood’s skillset and contacts are a tad more experienced than anything the Sheriff’s Department have on offer, meaning that one visit to Job is all they need to get on the right track.
This part of the episode brings the team back together in the Forge, and like Sugar I find the banter here “just like old times.” There is some old skool teamwork, plenty of Job’s deadpan quips, and even a reference back to the season one final, A Mixture of Madness. But this is only a temporary measure, as much of the episode sees Hood continue the investigation with Brock while Job has more pressing matters to attend to. Starr and Servitto make a compelling pairing throughout the rest of their escapades, which includes THAT line for those who are curious.
Again, this harks back nicely to the first season when Brock was the one who was spying on the newly arrived ‘Sheriff’, and even broke into his rooms to hunt through his belongings. Matt revealed to me during our interview back in March that there was a huge change during that first season for him, as his character was supposed to be the first to uncover that Hood was not who he seemed. During the gunfight with Rabbit, rather than being hit in the leg he was originally going to be fatally wounded instead, his last words being an angry, “I know you’re a liar, Hood!” After all they have been through over the intervening years, it seems fitting that the two now spend this fraught time together close to the end of the series covering this subject in more detail than was initially marked out for them.
After the events of last week, Carrie’s session with Hubbard, the therapist, are surprising, to say the least. She realises now the danger that she placed her family in, and is questioning her ability to successfully complete Gordon’s legacy and get her children back. Is it an impossible task, can she continue her crusade against Proctor and be a real mum at the same time, or does she just need to rethink her strategy. I’ve always loved Carrie; she’s a fighter, not only for herself but for those she loves, so it’s great to see that she makes some wise decisions here, setting up what will be her “one final act of vengeance” promised for the finale.
