This week on The Originals, Cami succumbed to her wound after a heartfelt goodbye with Klaus. This episode was proof that there is no cure for Lucien’s bite, nothing the Original family tried worked. Davina tried to dagger Kol, at his request, but the ancestors interfered and he kills her.
Favorite character: I’ve been doing a lot of thinking on how I would discuss Cami this week. Here’s the thing, she’s never been one of my favorite characters. I’ve loved her, hated her and felt indifferent towards her. The reason I’m calling her my favorite character of this episode is because this week she reminded me so much of the Cami we met in season 1. Cami has changed a lot during the course of this show. I once thought that giving her a darker edge would make her even more interesting but it seemed to have the opposite effect for me. I didn’t like her as a vampire, but I also felt like the writers didn’t do her justice. I believe that one of the reasons for writing her out of the show is that they felt like they’d written themselves into a corner. They didn’t handle her vampire storyline the way they should have. She used to be this show’s moral compass. Chances are that this show will now either get a lot darker, or they’ll try to have Marcel take over that role (doubt it though). I am sad to see her go. Cami didn’t deserve this.
Saddest moment: Of course her goodbye with Klaus was the saddest moment this week. Like there was any other option. It was beautifully shot, very reminiscent of their first meeting. I’m not going to go into too much detail for this scene. As a non-Klamille fan I probably wouldn’t be able to do it justice. What I will say is that I probably would’ve chosen a different song for this scene. Is that just me? I feel like it didn’t really capture the emotion of the moment. I did love the silence when she died. I’m glad they didn’t add music to that moment. I also want to point out just how much Klaus has grown in just a few episodes. When Cami died the first time he tore apart the room. This time he held back his anger (not just after her death but before as well) and refrained from doing anything stupid.
Most badass moment: Regardless of how I feel about Davina, her scenes in the bar with Lucien were badass. I didn’t know she had that much magic. Where has she been hiding it? It didn’t do her much good against Kol though. I do wonder why. The ancestors destroyed the ‘no magic’ aspect of the bar so she should have been able to defend herself. Was it shock? It’s possible that by the time she fully processed what was happening, it was already too late to act.
What the… Okay, I don’t think I’m alone when I say that I did not expect that ending. First of all, it was so brutal. Not really what you’d expect when it involves a series regular. Also, I really didn’t think anyone else would get killed after Cami. Now obviously, judging by the promo for next week’s episode, this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Davina. I saw a lot of speculation that they’d find a way to bring her back. But I’m not so sure. I think Davina will disappear in the season finale along with the ancestors. The fan reaction towards her has been mixed since the show first started. And if they got rid of Cami, who I believe has more fans than Davina, I don’t see them holding on to her. It was one thing when she was the only witch on the show, but now we have Freya and even Vincent. I do feel bad for Kol. He is not going to handle this well.
I’m sick of it: Those ancestors get more annoying each week. They’re slowing down this storyline’s progress. If it wasn’t for them, the Originals would have a much better chance of fighting Lucien. I truly hope they’re gone by the end of the next episode, but I won’t hold my breath.
Best quotes: Kol: “You can't trust me, which means you cannot love me. Not as I love you.”
Klaus: “Don't you think for a moment that you failed me. You stayed my hand, quelled my rage, you inspired goodness in me, and unlike all of the souls I've encountered and forgotten in the long march of time, I will carry you with me.” Cami: “I guess that makes me immortal.”
Hayley: “You know sometimes I can't stand him, but I always figured if he liked you he couldn't be that bad. This family owes you. You deserved better.”
That’s it for this week. Check in again next week for an all new review and let me know in the comments what you thought of this week’s episode.
