Ratings Breakdown:
Considering Ryan Seacrest’s final words last night… “As we say in Hollywood, good night America…for now”…it is safe to assume that “American Idol” is not really over. That said, the so-called series-finale of “American Idol”last night scored an estimated 9.6 rating/15 share in the household overnights, peaking at 9:30 p.m. with a 10.5/16. But keep in mind that the final six minutes where Trent Harmon was crowded the 15th season winner is not included in these averages.
Comparably, the 9.6/15 for “American Idol” was 55 percent above the record low 6.2/10 in the overnights for the year-ago season-ender (on Wednesday 5/13/15). And that translated into 8.03 million viewers and a 1.7 rating/6 share in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data.
In season-premiere news, “The Odd Couple” returned for its sophomore run on CBS with a fourth-place 4.9/ 8 at 8:30 p.m. Comparably, that slid from lead-in “The Big Bang Theory” (#1: 9.2/15 at 8 p.m.) by a significant 47 percent. In other words: not positive. Next on the Eye net was “Mom” at a 4.6/ 7 at 9 p.m. (#2t), followed by “2 Broke Girls” at a fourth-place 3.7/ 6. And, in other words, there was really no need renew “2 Broke Girls” for next season.
CBS capped off the night with episode two of “Rush Hour” at a second-place 3.0/ 5 in the household overnights at 10 p.m., which was just one-tenth of a rating point below the 3.1/ 5 one week earlier. But that 3.1 overnight rating translated into only 5.06 million viewers and a 1.1/ 4 in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same day data.
Over at ABC, the network was down by minor overnight household proportions with its combination of “Grey’s Anatomy” (#3: 5.6/ 9), “Scandal” (#2: 4.6/ 7) and week three of “The Catch” (3.8/ 7), which is not an improvement from prior time period occupant “How To Get Away With Murder.”
Elsewhere, NBC featured an encore telecast of “Little Big Shots” (#4: 2.7/ 5), an original episode of “The Blacklist” (#3: 4.3/ 7) and a Thursday 10 p.m. repeat of “Law & Order: SVU” (#3: 2.5/ 5). Comparably, “The Blacklist” increased from the 8:30 p.m. portion of the “Little Big Shots” second-run (2.8/ 5) by 54 percent. And The CW aired its regularly scheduled pairing of “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” (#5: 1.5/ 4) and “the 100” (#5: 0.8/ 1)

About the Daily Ratings
Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.
The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above (We also where possible now post the 18-34 and 25-54 Demo Numbers).
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.
