    Ratings Breakdown:
The immediate observation was all five broadcast networks on the downside in the overnights compared to the year-ago evening.

Sophomore “Empire” on Fox was the top draw, with a 6.7 rating/11 share in the household overnights at 9 p.m. Comparably, this was right on par with one week earlier, which translated into 10.11 million viewers and a 3.8 rating/12 share in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data. And it built from lead-in Rosewood” (#3: 3.5/ 6 at 8 p.m.) by 91 percent in the overnights.

On CBS, veteran “Survivor,” yet another addictive edition, won the 8 p.m. hour with a 5.6/ 9 in the household overnights. While I will not give away who went home in the event you did not see it, last night marked yet another classic blindside and another reason why this reality/competition will live on indefinitely. Note to the person who departed: you got exactly what you deserved!

Next on the Eye net was “Criminal Minds,” which is expected back next season, with a 5.6/ 9 at 9 p.m. Comparably, that ranked a comfortable second in the hour behind aforementioned “Empire.” And it led into recently introduced spin-off “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders” at a dominant 4.7/ 8 at 10 p.m. Chances of a second season renewal for “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders” is also likely.

On NBC, new medical drama “Heartbeat” returned after a one week absence with a fourth-place 2.8/ 5 at 8 p.m., which will not bode well for a second season renewal. The network fared considerably better with recently scheduled “The Mysteries of Laura.” “Heartbeat”led into encore telecasts of “Law & Order: SVU” (#4: 2.5/ 4) and “Chicago PD” (#3: 2.7/ 5) from 9-11 p.m.

    Elsewhere, ABC’s two hour sitcom block was in all repeats – “The Middle” (#3: 3.2/ 6), “The Goldbergs” (#3: 3.0/ 5), “Modern Family” (#3: 3.2/ 5) and “black-ish” (#3t, 2.6/ 4). And it led into on-the-fence “Nashville” at a second-place 2.9/ 5 at 10 p.m. My prediction is ABC will give “Nashville” one finale 13-episode season.

The CW was also in repeats last night care of “Arrow” (#5: 0.9/ 1) and “Supernatural” (#5: 0.6/ 1).
