Ratings Breakdown:
With “The Big Bang Theory” on CBS in repeats, ABC led the Thursday overnights with a 29 percent advantage in households. The alphabet network featured two episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” (8 p.m.: #1, 6.3 rating/10 share; 9 p.m.: #1, 6.0/10) and recent entry “The Catch” (#1: 3.7/ 6 at 10 p.m.), which slipped from “Grey’s Anatomy” by a significant 38 percent. One year earlier, “American Crime” scored a similar 3.4/ 6. At present, the prognosis for a second season of “The Catch” is really 50-50.
In series-premiere news, Fox reality/competition “American Grit” was DOA at a distant 1.5/ 2 in the household overnights at 9 p.m. Comparably, this was 37 percent below short-lived detective drama “Backstrom” on the year-ago evening (2.2/ 4 on 4/15/14). And it slipped by 48 percent from the return of lead-in “Bones” (#3: 2.9/ 5 at 8 p.m.). Considering most new shows drop 10 to 20 percent in week two, I am even wondering if “American Grit” will make it past next week. Don’t count on it.
In time period premiere news, “Strong” did not live up to its title on NBC, with a distant fourth-place 2.2/ 3 at 8 p.m. Comparably, this was on par with the 2.1/ 3 in the overnights for the two-hour preview out of “The Voice” on Wednesday, and that translated into just 3.33 million viewers and a 0.9 rating/3 share in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data
Next on NBC was reliable “The Blacklist” at a 4.8/ 8 at 9 p.m. (#3), which built by 118 percent, followed by the Thursday 10 p.m. time period debut of drama “Game of Silence” at a third-place 2.7/ 5. Comparably, this was 40 percent below the 4.5/ 7 for the Tuesday 10 p.m. preview this week, also out of “The Voice.” And that 4.5 rating in the overnights translated into 6.41 million viewers and a 1.4/ 5 in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data. Overnight retention for “Game of Silence” out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “The Blacklist” (4.9/ 8), meanwhile, was only 55 percent.
Elsewhere, the encore installment of “The Big Bang Theory” topped the night on CBS with a 6.0/10 (#2) in the 8 p.m. half-hour. And that led into “The Odd Couple” at a 4.6/ 8 (#2) at 8:30 p.m., which slipped by 23 percent, followed by “Mom” (#2: 5.1/ 8), “2 Broke Girls” (#3: 4.2/ 7) and recently introduced “Rush Hour” (#2: 2.8/ 5) at 10 p.m. What CBS needs to think about is whether or not “The Odd Couple” can eventually stand on its own. Personally, I don’t think it can.
The CW capped off the night at typical overnight levels for “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” (#5: 1.5/ 2) and “The 100” (#5: 0.8/ 1).
