The Disney-owned cable network has ordered the Bella Thorne starrer from Pretty Little Liars boss I. Marlene King to series, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Based on the Rebecca Serle novel, Famous in Love follows ordinary college student Paige (The Duff, Scream'sBella Thorne) as she gets her big break after auditioning for the starring role in a Hollywood blockbuster. She must now navigate her new star-studded life and undeniable chemistry with her two co-leads while discovering the highs and lows that come with being the new It Girl in town.
King and Serle penned the pilot, which was directed by Miguel Arteta (The Carrie Diaries). King exec produces alongside Dan Farah (MTV's The Shannara Chronicles) and Arteta. Serle will receive a co-executive producer credit on the drama produced by Long Lake Media, Farah Films and Carmina Productions in association with Warner Horizon Television.
Series pickup comes nearly a year after Freeform first put the drama in development and six months after it was ordered to pilot.
Famous in Love comes as Freeform has been rebranded with a focus on what network president Tom Ascheim calls "becomers" — individuals who are experiencing "firsts" like love and jobs in a bid to court older viewers.
