Banshee - Something out of the Bible - Review: "Rebecca"

It’s a bittersweet moment as Banshee has started its fourth and final season last Friday on Cinemax with "Something out of the Bible". When its first aired four years ago, I would have never guessed Banshee would turn out to be one of the best TV show. Banshee is a surprising show, in a sense it’s not an usual and typical show, it’s totally unique and one of kind. There is, and there won’t be, any other show like Banshee on TV.

And the season 4 premiere was a great episode, surprising in its structure and timeline. Banshee has always used flashbacks in the most efficient and clever way on TV, they’re never useless or too informative. So two years has passed since the dramatic and traumatic events of last year finale (Gordon’s death…. Job’s kidnapping… Hood resigning…) and everybody is adjusting to his new life: Brock is the sheriff (no surprise), Carrie has become a vigilante in Banshee (still badass), Proctor is the Mayor (as he ran unopposed) and Hood was hiding out in a cabin, with no razor apparently. That was weird to see him with hair and a bard, I must say I like Anthony Starr more with his shaved head.
Anyway, Hood had to come out of his cabin and back to Banshee as something terrible happened : Rebecca got murdered ! God, I couldn’t believe it at first when they showed her dead and opened up body. It was shocking, such a bold move from the writers but also a smart one. As we jumped through time, there is still way to see Rebecca, in flashbacks. Because not having Lili Simmons for the final season would have been such a waste. I’m really sad over her death, Rebecca was an amazing character that we watched grow so much over three seasons. She is will be missed, but we’ll still have flashbacks so I'm not angry at her death.

Having Hood coming back to Banshee after 18 months was a great choice, as we followed him into the new Banshee, post Hood. The city had now a real sheriff station. It felt a bit unreal to see how brand new and modern everything was there. Bunker was still looking super hot and Siobhan's portrait on the wall was a nice touch. I’m looking forward getting to know the new officers, Brock’s relationship with the DA and the Mayor, Proctor.
Hood and Proctor’s scene was excellent, it was such a change, for once not that much tension between them as they finally have the same objective find who killed Rebecca. Having Hood and Proctor, the two most badass characters on the show working to the same goal is very exciting ! I’m already dreaming about a Hood/Proctor/Burton fight scene : D Because Hood’s former team was a bit scattered

Job was still missing, presumed dead for some. Of course, I’m convinced he’s still alive out there, can’t wait for find more about him but his kidnapping scattered Hood’s team. Carrie has lost custody of her children and has to go to therapy, it might actually be good for her, she is building her house at day and kicking ass at night. And Sugar was quite pissed to see Hood’s back, especially since he’s back for Rebecca whereas he left Job for dead. Awkward…
I’m usually not fan when a show pulled that off, separating an established and functioning team but in Banshee case it felt right and it’s interesting. The team has always had tensions and conflicts, they all have strong characters, very determined but they work so well together. I hope as soon as they’ll get a signal from Job, they’ll reunite and go after him.

"Something out of the Bible" was en excellent episode, an epic way to start Banshee final season. Things has changed in Banshee, people has evolved but the show's magi and special touch remains the same. I'm absolutely thrilled for this final season, there will only 8 episodes and I got a feeling they're all be great ones.
What did you think of "Something out of the Bible" ? How are you feeling about Banshee’s final season ? Who do you think killed Rebecca ? Hit the comments !

Sheriff notes :
- No Job ?! Where are youuuuu ?
- No Eliza Dushku :( Looking forward meeting her !
- I have absolutely no idea who killed Rebecca
- "Sheriff Hood".... Thanks Bunker, it felt good to hear
- I must say the whole drug/Bunker's brother thing isn't my favorite part. Let's see how it'll play out.
- It shocked me to say that I have missed Deva
