Banshee - Job - Advance Preview + Teasers

15 Apr 2016

We caught a fleeting glimpse of Hightower (Robert Sedgwick), the man who holds Job, at the tail end of last week’s instalment, and as I’m sure you could work out from the brief footage of his water torture, he’s a bit of an asshole. But that was nothing compared to some of other despicable tricks he has inflicted upon his prisoner, tormenting and breaking Job down until he’s on the verge of compliance. All for that moment when Hightower decides that he is no longer useful, and his death is imminent.

This is the first (and only) time the Banshee has gone for a titular episode, yet there are other plot lines which will be expanded on as the hunt for Job reaches its bitter end. One main arc is that of Rebecca, of course, and we will see her parent’s struggle to claim her body in order for them to give her a traditional burial. Both Brock and Proctor will be approached by the couple, in hopes that one of them can help speed up the release of their daughter. The autopsy and other forensic procedures for a murder victim can be a lengthy process, however, especially when a vital piece of new information comes to light that could implicate a particular person, such as in this case.

Another back story we’ll finally see is how Bunker managed to spark up the affair with his brother’s wife. Although most of this plays out pretty much how I imagined it would, it’s good to have the blanks here filled in and there is slightly more to it than some fans may have thought of, although I have seen a few theories that more or less tie-in with where this appears to be going. I have to confess that I find this aspect of the story a little slow. Tom Pelphrey had some very strong material during Tribal and We All Pay Eventually with which he swiftly set the character of Bunker as a fan favourite. I wanted to see more of that this year from him, so hopefully that will come later in the season.

Getting back to the main action of the episode, the four people who are on the hunt for Job – Hood, Carrie and Sugar are joined by a familiar face that has also appeared in the last two seasons. They finally get their lucky break once they get their hands on a list of the staff who worked at Camp Genoa. From there it’s short work to realising who bundled Job into the helicopter and where he is now four years later. Getting him to talk isn’t too hard either, Leo is an complete wuss! But that’s the easy part of the job over, from there on out things are going to be a lot tougher, and a lot more deadly. In fact, all seven deaths this week happen during the last stage of the rescue attempt.

This is easily the standout episode of the season so far, having Carrie, Hood and Sugar working together again on a mission is a big part of why I feel. They have a special sense of comradery which is unique to Banshee, and although that has been missed during the last two episodes, there was no doubt in my mind that they would find their way back to it before too long. But the biggest shout out must go to Hoon Lee, who is simply phenomenal in all of his scenes this week. Job has been through sheer hell at the hands of Hightower, and Lee portrays the agonies and despair with such utter believability. Director Everardo Gout also deserves praise for his work throughout the episode too, but especially so when depicting Job’s nightmare at the hands of his captives.

Job airs on Friday April 15 at 10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT, below are a few dialogue teasers to see you through until then. If you want to have a go at guessing who said what I will fill in any correct answers before it airs. Don’t forget to come back and vote in our poll after the episode and let us know what you thought.

“Cruz, stand down. I said, stand the fuck down!” Brock to Cruz

“I know that was Calvin and his goons that did that to you. Why didn’t you report that?” Maggie to Bunker

“I’m afraid our time together has come to an end. Start walking” Hightower to Job

Cherie Daly makes her return in this episode (she was last seen in Tribal), but she is playing a different character this time round

“Whoever the vigilante is, they know you’ve got the DA in your pocket. Someone is sending you a message” Cruz to Proctor

A character we only heard about last week has a scene this week

“It’s ok, you’re safe. Look at me, it’s ok. You have a fever, your body is sweating off the infection” Rebecca to Hood

“I assume there’s a good reason why this son of a bitch is still breathing?” Sugar to Hood, Carrie & Fat Au

“Unclear. It could be two days, it could be two hours. You want him back alive, we have to go now” Leo to Hood

“In exchange for me not chopping off his dick, he graciously supplied me with a copy of the files” Fat Au to Hood

“This particular model was built by Homeland Security, to torture prisoners after 9/11. Unfortunately, it was banned after some of those fuckers went blind for good” Hightower to Job

“Why the fuck are we still answering to this asshole anyway? We have an army ten times bigger than his an…” Calvin to Watts

“It’s just that everybody disappeared all at once, you know. It’s all my fault” Carrie to ?

“I just need to figure out how to put him away. But it’s gonna take some time” Bunker to Maggie

Death count – 7
