Banshee - The Burden of Beauty - Advance Preview + Teasers
Apr 8, 2016
Banshee Reviews SSI know fans were disappointed to see that Rebecca was the latest victim of the serial killer, but as I’m sure many have already worked out, the way this season has been set up means that Lili Simmons won’t be leaving us any time soon. In fact, she takes a front seat this week by opening the episode during one of her continuing flashbacks, and her character is the driving force behind many of the other cast’s motivations, which will be an ongoing process through the whole series.
As for who is behind her murder, that will be one of the main themes this year, and it is a subject which has been hotly debated by members of the staff on the site as we’ve watched the screeners that have been provided so far. After the first episode I was convinced that Proctor and Burton had been behind it, staging it to look like one of the serial killers hits, due to Kai’s hunting for something in her bedroom and the way it looked like Rebecca was possibly talking to someone before she was attacked. My mind has been changed a number of times since however.
With the flashback saying that she was taking on more of a leadership role in the business, and remembering how things went last season, there’s always the possibility that it’s someone she’s angered there perhaps. As she drove to see Hood beforehand, she could have been looking for an escape from trouble herself at that point, or maybe she was after some advice or protection. There are many other possibilities though, and I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
As we saw last week, Proctor’s new position as Mayor hasn’t stopped him from expanding his other business interests. His alliance with the Brotherhood requires his personal attention this time after they attempt to make profit through illegal means. Although the situation is less bloody than the time Burton had to step in, Calvin Bunker repeats a critical mistake which I fear could cost him in the long run, and he is left humiliated once again. Kai’s ambitions reach further afield than his hometown, however, and a meeting with a member of the Mexican cartel could see him expanding his operation exponentially.
When it comes to his niece’s death, we learn more about the timing and scope of Rebecca’s interests in the family business, which may provide some clues to her demise. Or could be red herrings, it’s difficult to say at this point. A number of threads from last week’s episode will be tied up as we revisit Aaron Boedicker’s farmstead in the foothills – be prepared for a particularly grisly death during that trip by the way, there were reasons why old pa Boedicker wasn’t happy to Hood again! And watch out at the very end of the episode as there is another brief look at some of Rebecca’s last moments.
The Burden of Beauty airs on Friday April 8 at 10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT, below are a few dialogue teasers to see you through until then. If you want to have a go at guessing who said what I will fill in any correct answers before it airs.
