The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story - The Race Card - Review

This episode is very Johnnie centric. It centers around the race issues that went on during and before the trial. It also sheds light on Darden and how the prosecution team tried to use the color of his skin to their advantage. I could not help but feel sorry for Darden in the episode. I really do not think he meant any harm with his speech, but he just does not have the experience like Johnnie does. I know that it must have been hard for Darden to go up against his idol and someone who is so respected within the African American community, but he’s going to have to step up his game if he wants to win the case. Spoiler alert we all know he doesn’t and I think it was pretty foolish on Clark’s part to make him the co-prosecutor on the case.

On the defense side of things, not much happens. Expect for Johnny’s right hand man discovering that they did not submit all of their witnesses to the prosecution and that Johnny needs to take the names out of his opening statement. Johnny doesn’t and gets his right hand man in trouble. This once again proves how the defense team had no problem breaking the rules and manipulating the system.

Hurrah! No Kardashian’s episode. I have to be honest the producers of this show are sneaky. They weren’t even featured in this episode and I’m still mentioning them. I’m playing right into their hands, much like the jury played into the defenses hands.
Did anyone else find it weird that Kardashian was not sitting with the defense team during the trial? I know he didn’t have a big involvement in the case and was there as moral support for O.J., but the show has been devoting a lot of time to the character. So if he’s not really apart of the defense team what’s the point of spending so much time on the character week after week?

I was very disappointed in Clark throughout the episode. She was supposed to be better than O.J.’s defense team, have respect for the law and not manipulate it. However she did not listen Darden and didn’t make him feel included. It was a tough pill to swallow for me since I really liked seeing them bond in previous episodes. Many have speculated they were even involved in a romantic relationship in the past, but Clark just threw Darden’s concerns aside and made him prep Fuhrman. I know she thought this would be best for the case, but it wasn’t. It created a divide between them. Clark at the end of the episode finally hears Darden out and says that she will question Fuhrman. The episode ends with Fuhrman cleaning Nazi medals, which is a scary site to see.

There is no slowing down in this series. Each episode leaves me wanting more. I’m excited to see what happens next week. So be sure to come back and read next week's review.
