This week on the Originals we picked up several days after the events of last week’s episode. Kol was reunited with his family just when one of Klaus’ old enemies came to town. Klaus managed to kill him but not before finding out that many more are heading for New Orleans. Which is why he, Hayley and Hope left to go into hiding. Hayley spent this week killing off the Strix members who were responsible for Jackson’s death. Cami remains worried about Aurora and pushed Klaus away, while Hayley did the same with Elijah. Davina seems to be struggling to accept Kol’s vampire side, something Kol also seems to have difficulties with. At the end of the episode, Vincent finds the remaining white oak and Finn appears.
Moment of déjà vu: Am I the only one who thought of Stefan and Elena when Cami ended things with Klaus? The whole ‘loved you when I was human, but now my feelings have changed’ storyline. Only in this case Cami didn’t really mean it. I saw a lot of Cami and Klaus fans who were upset after this episode but honestly I think this is probably for the best. Now before you throw stones at my head, let me explain. Right now everything is still very fresh for Cami. She’s still angry for everything that happened when she turned and the situation with Aurora. After some time of space she’ll probably be a lot more understanding than now. Also I think it would’ve been a lot harder for Klaus to leave if they’d parted on good terms. I’m pretty sure that this is the exact reason Hayley pushed Elijah away as well. I have very little doubt that they’ll reunite eventually (both couples actually). But right now too much stuff has happened.
Favorite relationship: Speaking of Kol, I’m really excited to see him and Freya develop their relationship. Before this episode they’d only met once but Kol didn’t know who she was at the time. I hope Finn’s return won’t get in the way of them having more scenes together. It’s obvious Kol misses his witch side and that he enjoyed passing on his wisdom to his sister.
Oh my god: I can’t believe I still don’t know what happened between the Originals’ departure of New Orleans and Elijah’s first appearance in Mystic Falls. They mentioned it again this week. Klaus told Elijah they he’d scattered the bodies of their siblings at sea. But why did he do that? If he truly wanted to disappear, couldn’t he have just explained the situation to his brother. Why say the one thing that Elijah wouldn’t be able to forgive. There has to be more to this story. There had to have been something that provoked him. We’ve seen zero flashbacks to this. When Klaus and Elijah were separated in New Orleans they were on good terms. There was no mention of him in Chicago. So it either happened between those two time periods of afterwards. This is something I’ve been wondering about since they first appeared on ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and I refuse to believe Klaus said what he said without a good reason.
Most confusing moment: So Finn is back. I did not see that coming. Especially not after just getting Kol back. Though I did think that the fact that we’d been seeing a bit more of him through Freya was a sign of something. I just expected his return to take a bit longer. So now the big question is how he got back. Freya had to have been involved right? She has the necklace and I doubt anyone would have been able to get it away from her again after she lost it to the Strix. But how did she do it? Look at how long it took Davina to find a way to bring Kol back. There’s no way she just figured it out in 5 seconds. I hate that we have to wait a whole month to find out what went down. I am excited to have him back. This means the future storyline will be more family centric which is also when the show is at its best. I can’t wait to see everyone’s reaction in the next episode.
What now? Judging from the promo for the next episode, we won’t be getting a time jump quite yet. Which begs the question, what happens now? I wasn’t surprised to see Hayley and Hope join Klaus in hiding. After everything that went down last season, I knew Klaus wouldn’t be able to be separated from his daughter. Same goes for Hayley. And with all of Klaus’ enemies making their way towards New Orleans, it probably isn’t a good place for a baby. From what we saw, three years from now Klaus will still be away. Which means we’re bound to get that time jump sometime soon. I guess they still want to wrap up some of the storylines, and who knows what Klaus and Hayley will get up to. I doubt their trip will be off screen. ‘The Vampire Diaries’ just did a three year jump but I actually think the one for ‘The Originals’ will be a bit longer. There’s no reason why that wouldn’t be possible. The entire cast, with the exception of Freya and Davina is immortal. And I don’t think it would be too difficult for the two witches to slow down their aging. We all know they’re powerful enough.
Best music: ‘Thousand Eyes’ by Of Monsters And Men
Best quotes: Klaus: “Someone had to pay for that so I murdered Gaspar’s brute of a father.” Freya: “And…” Klaus: “And one or two…” Elijah: “Five.” Klaus: “Five of his bloodthirsty brothers.” Elijah: “Don’t forget the mistress.” Klaus: “That was an accident.”
Josh: “It’s not every night you get to celebrate having your supernatural link to a murderous psycho broken by a blood spell. He said without irony.”
Klaus: “His family decimated Belaga.” Kol: “Oh Belaga, that place was hideous.” Elijah: “Thank you, Kol.” Klaus: “No taste, either of you.”
That’s it for this week. Check in again after the hiatus for an all new review and let me know it the comments what you thought of this week’s episode.
