The Carmichael Show - Fallen Heroes - Advance Preview

The Carmichael Show continues its second season with “Fallen Heroes” on its regular day and time – Sunday, March 13 at 9pm on NBC. A second episode follows at 9:30. “Fallen Heroes” was written by the team of Jerrod Carmichael and Mike Scully and was directed by Gerry Cohen. Still haven’t caught this show? Still definitely worth checking out!

Once again the show demonstrates that a show can be funny and relevant. This show is really brave, and I hope they never fail to have my jaw drop as I say, “Oh no, they didn’t!” They DO go there! I really like how the episode is structured so that it teases out the various issues surrounding the fallen hero in question – none other than Bill Cosby!

As with every episode, the entire cast is strong. Amber Stevens West as Maxine seems more comfortable in the role and Maxine seems a bit more comfortable with her boyfriend’s family. Cynthia (Loretta Devine) and Joe (David Alan Grier) are celebrating their 34 year anniversary! And the two have some sage advice for how the younger couple can achieve the same longevity…

Bobby (LilRel Howery) seems to be a fixture in his parents’ house. This episode also sees the return of Nekeisha (Tiffany Haddish) who also drops in to wish Joe and Cynthia a Happy Anniversary.

The episode doesn’t shy away from the elephant in the room, but also looks at the dilemma of what to do about someone’s art when their less savory aspects may come to light. There’s also a really interesting discussion of comedians in general. One of the women hates comedians because they are mean and one loves them because they are mean – anyone care to guess which is which?

Two great lines in this episode to watch for. “The best thing our heroes can do is die before they disappoint us.” And the second line I really liked was “Once you know something, you cannot unknow it.”

I don’t want to give away a lot about the episode. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait for the next installment. Don’t forget that there will be two back to back episodes on Sunday, March 13, at 9pm and 9:30 on NBC.
