Shameless - Paradise Lost - Advance Preview: "A New Gallagher"

NA Reviews ShamelessFirstly, the baby is coming! I can't believe we're already at Episode 10, this season, time really has gone by.
Onto my preview, Svetlana and V continue to develop their marriage plan, so Svetlana can get her green card. They really go all out, Svetlana gets to know V more, a bit more than Kevin. V also gives Svetlana a cute pet name. The pet name is a really nice touch of believability. However this marriage scam may hurt Kevin’s ego in the process and that definitely comes into play during this episode.
Debbie learns quickly that, maybe having her child being born in this commune isn't the best idea, even if their Maternity Tent is relaxing, clean and has electricity. The midwife, in particular cements her view on this.
Carl meets Dominique’s father again, this time in a more proper fashion. Carl and Sergeant Winslow share quite a few great scenes, in which Ethan Cutkosky continues to shine. I'm really impressed with Ethan's acting this season, his character has had a complete transformation and his character development has truly been the highlight of this season. Ethan's been doing an excellent job portraying both sides of Carl.
Ian takes his EMT Test but not before going to get tested for HIV with Caleb. Not everything goes well with Ian's EMT Application which leads to him being even more honest with Caleb. Ian does shine when taking his test though, and I was so proud of him, because it reiterates what Mandy said in the most recent episode, "Just because we were born here doesn’t mean we’re going to end up here." That quote was just so powerful to me, (and it's from my personal favorite episode of the season so far), it was Mandy's way of giving her best friend some hope in a sometimes hopeless world.
Lip has really fallen off the bandwagon ever since his relationship with Helen ended, his downward spiral accelerates further during this episode and some of things he does, leading to certain events occurring that are quite unfortunate, but really a product of his own actions and recklessness. I want to feel sorry for him but I fear more for his inability to control himself. I honestly felt moments of his character are hinting at another troublesome Gallagher and I never want that for him.
Fiona gets to see some Alibi regulars in a very new, very explicit light and it's quite funny. We also might see her in a glimpse of her wedding dress. She's trying her best to make the most out of this engagement and is trying to plan a nice marriage ceremony compared to her most recent one. Emmy Rossum will always be a mirror of excellence in any and every scene she has.
One particular strong moment, a short scene, involving two Gallaghers takes place during the episode, a cry for help is seen and the response is selfless, and rare, something that I felt lead to something else happening near the end of the episode. Because of this, I think everyone will understand why it was done this way. I don't want to say anything about it though.
The final shot of the episode, the final scene is just heartbreaking. The music and the look on this characters face breaks my heart, but sometimes it's too late.
