Episode 617 Bomb Voyage
Written By Jan Nash and Katie Wech
Directed BY Jan Nash

Who else jumped at the start of this episode with the trailer and title you knew it was coming then, BOOM!!

What can we say about this episode but intense? You have Korsak in a dire situation, Nina closing the net on who is responsible for Maura’s Kidnapping and ultimately threatening Jane. Top that off with a bit of wedding planning and a possible trip to Paris gives us a well-rounded episode of Rizzoli and Isles.

We open with a guy in the woods doing what appears to be Tai chi, as he finishes and goes to leave the guy gets blown up.

This episode we are in Frankie’s Kitchen and Maura (Sasha Alexander) has come to take Jane ( Angie Harmon) to her new home ( remember her professor friend is letting Jane lease it )Maura is sceptical about Jane taking a worse for wear looking Cactus but it seems it is symbolic, having survived the fire and just as prickly.
Remind you of anyone? Frankie ( Jordan Bridges) seems pleased to have his home to himself. Soon they are called to the crime scene.

Korsak( Bruce McGill) gets a call from Nina( Idara Victor) regarding Jane’s Hacker, seems he has a cousin who went to the prison Jane’s kidnapper was a shrink in.
Jane and Maura arrive at the crime scene where Korsak presents them with a finger in a bag. I must admit I think I would empty my lunch bag before putting a finger in it but that’s just me. As it seems joggers have found a piece of the victim.

Kiki (Christina Chang) and Angela ( Lorraine Bracco) are talking wedding table cloth colours at the dirty robber when Angela’s Boyfriend calls and asks Angela to go to Paris, which seems to freak Angela out.

Back at the crime scene, I must admit this was a bit gruesome. Korsak tells them all to stop moving, seems they have wandered into a minefield. (Wouldn’t you think they would have checked the area before going in as it seems obvious some sort of explosive device killed the guy??).
Anyway everybody stays still and the chief bomb guy Bryce (Dylan Bruno) tells them it will take time. Korsak makes some excuse to get Jane and Maura out before him as he is under the shade.

Angela hasn’t given her boyfriend Ron an answer and he arrives at the robber feeling he has scared her a little. Angela seems unsure if she wants to take the step.

Jane and Maura are coming up with a theory about the victim; was he making a bomb etc and got caught in his own minefield. Maura is fine and can move but gets uppity when she can’t move the body. This I found a bit annoying, Maura is a smart woman, knowing she is standing in a minefield; those around her would be a priority. Yes, she wants to preserve the crime scene but I felt it was unnecessary and did little to the plot though it does make for some adorable bickering between Jane and Maura.

Maura gets a hit on the victim when she returns to the lab, seems he is a co-founder of a charitable company that removes land mines. She gives Kent ( Adam Sinclair) the blood she took from the victim to look for evidence that he built the bomb himself. Frankie comes in and gives Maura an over-enthusiastic hug. They need to know if the victim killed himself while making the bomb or was it something else.

They find another device at the crime scene which they need to flag before Jane can move.

Frankie interviews the victim’s partner seems a few war zones and governments don’t like what they do, so a long list of enemy’s.

Jane is cleared but won’t leave Korsak until he tells her to get him some pizza we then learn he has, in fact, stepped on a mine but it hasn’t clicked the trigger.

The bomb squad leader explains to Jane, Korsak may have rocked it up stepping on the edge that’s why it hasn’t gone off. They are not sure how they are going to get him off it.

Maura gets the call and asks Kent (remember he was a doctor in Afghanistan) to go in case he is needed. She will be there soon.

Jane goes to talk to Korsak and again she is being a bit stupid getting too close but what follows is a lovely conversation between them. Seems the victim came up to that spot a lot so looks like he was the target. You really want to just hug Korsak in this scene.

Nina is looking through the email to the company hoping something will flag up, as for Janes case seems she is getting a warrant for the hacker’s cousin’s cell phone so this may lead somewhere.

Things are tensing up as they are removing a mine but not the one Korsak is on. Kent and Maura discuss what we all seem to realise, the victim wasn’t building a bomb but was blown up for some reason. Seems Maura has also brought something with her that may help.

Jane gets sent off the field while they use the shielding Maura has brought and are going to pull Korsak off the mine. Jane and Maura watch nervously and when they hear the bang run to hug Korsak, who thankfully is ok.

Back at the BPD Jane seems more rattled than Korsak, she overhears him talking to Kiki he explains it isn’t the sort of conversation to have over the phone.

Seems they have the Hackers cousin, Jane was wating for Korsak so they could interview her. Again I was a little confused by this scene as previously stated Jane was to be kept off the case. I do love how Jane lost it with her though. So who was this woman talking to about her cousin??

Maura is making a bomb, well trying to piece together the makeup of the explosive used based on the one they removed. She can tell Jane is upset and Jane explains to her what has happened. Seems nothing is outstanding about the bomb but some dye used in flares or fireworks. Jane thanks Maura for getting what she did to help Korsak.

Nina has traced a few enemies but one stands out as an ex-employer who they call in to interview.

Kiki shows up and when Korsak tells her what happened she walks out saying she needs space, I think Korsak believes he has lost her.

The girlfriend is a dead end seems they broke up as the company wasn’t as charitable as she hoped it would be but had no reason to kill him.
Some wild thoughts bounce around from a billionaires love triangle to a jealous husband but it seems our victim did not want the party life, so all fingers point to his partner.

Jane is going through files trying to make connections in her case. Maura offers to take her to dinner but instead stays to help her look through the files. I love the fact Maura compared herself to another cactus on Janes ledge.

Korsak is at the robber and gives Angela some advice to live for the moment, I think Angela is going to Paris.

Back to the crime, not Janes but the guy who was blown up, seems his partner had motive and after another tense moment Jane and Korsak get their guy.

At the end of a long day everyone is at the robber, Kiki arrives and isn’t walking away but in fact doesn’t want to wait to marry Korsak and Angela is off to Paris. Jane gets a call from Nina and they all return to BPD.

Seems we have found our connection. She was in the same cell block as the Hackers cousin and her work detail had her cleaning outside the Psychologists office three times a week. Her Name is Alice Sands though she looks familiar to Jane, she can’t place her name. Alice’s maiden name was Macfaden, Jane recognises her from her time at the Police academy. They rush to the prison but aren’t allowed entry much to Janes frustration but it turns out she was released 3 days ago.

A lot happened in this episode and I am sure next week we will get to know more about why this woman is after Jane. However, I do expect a cliffhanger ending knowing this storyline heads us into season 7. I am also excited that none other than Annabeth Gish is playing Janes stalker.

Are you looking forward to the finale?
