MONDAY, MARCH 21, 2016
Household Rating/Share
ABC: 7.4 rating/12 share, NBC: 6.1/10, CBS: 5.0/ 8, Fox: 2.7/ 4, CW: 0.6/ 1
Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:
CW: +20, Fox: +12, NBC: – 5, ABC: – 9, CBS: -11
Ratings Breakdown:
The return of “Dancing With the Stars” led ABC to Monday household overnight victory, with a 21 percent advantage over second-place NBC. But the home of “The Voice” will have no trouble winning the evening in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demographics).
“Dancing With the Stars” scored a solid 8.8 rating/14 share in households from 8-10 p.m., which was 10 percent below the year-ago spring season-opener (9.8/15 on 3/22/15). And that 9.8 overnight rating translated into 14.16 million viewers and a 2.1 rating/7 share in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data. In other words, “Dancing With the Stars” is still a force to reckon with. Note to Geraldo Rivera: you may want to have your bags packed.
Competing “The Voice” on NBC, which will own the two hour block in the younger demos, scored a 7.1/11 in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m. But tops in the 10 p.m. hour was “NCIS: Los Angeles” on CBS (5.5/10), which bested competing “Castle” on ABC (4.5/ 8) and “Blindspot” on NBC (4.0/ 7) by 58 percent and 77 percent, respectively. Airing out of “The Voice,” “Blindspot” will have no trouble dominating the 10 p.m. hour in the key demos.
Earlier in the evening on CBS was the combination of “Supergirl” (#3: 3.9/ 6), which beat Fox’s competing “Gotham” (4: 2.8/ 4) by 39 percent, and “Scorpion” (#3: 5.8/ 9) from 8-10 p.m. Airing out of “Gotham” was recently introduced drama “Lucifer” (#4: 2.6/ 4), which held a solid 93 percent of its diluted “Gotham” lead-in.
The CW capped off the night with its low-rated, but renewed, pairing of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (#5: 0.5/ 1) and “Jane the Virgin” (#5: 0.6/ 1).
