Freeform has put in development New People, a family drama from The Opposite of Sex writer/director Don Roos, Joel Silver’s Silver Pictures and Lionsgate Television.
The series is inspired by the bestselling and well-received novel Becoming Nicole: The Transformation of an American Family by Amy Ellis Nutt, which in turn was inspired by the true story of a transgender girl, her identical twin brother and their family’s journey.
New People falls under Silver Pictures’ first-look deal with Lionsgate TV. Roos executive produces with Silver and Rodney Ferrell who oversees the television division of Silver Pictures.
As ABC Family, Freeform previously tackled the subject of a family with a transgender member in the docuseries Becoming Us.
