New Girl - Episode 5.11 - Review: "The Apartment"

I can't believe I didn't realize the 100th episode was last week! What a milestone and a great episode to leave off on. This week on New Girl, Jess must complete a week's worth of work for the school budget while Cece moves into the loft. Meanwhile, Schmidt tries to deal with a flasher at the bar and Winston must work with a new partner to avoid any sexual tension with his partner Aly. Maybe it's just because I'm going through a similar situation with a move, but Cece's emotional response to her whole life changing hit pretty damn close to home. They say change is fun; I say screw that. Change is scary as hell because there are so many unknown variables, but in the end, you can only control the events that are controllable. Sometimes you just have to see how things will play out. Maybe you fail, maybe you succeed, but I guarantee you will find out what you're made of after pushing your limits with a huge life change.

Meanwhile, at the bar, Winston vacillates between calling Aly to let her know how she feels, while Winston and his partner, Johnston, let the flasher go after failing to communicate. Cece tries to convince Jess to take a leap of faith and quit her job because she is completely stressed out. Sometimes the best episodes deal with the heaviest events. I'm glad this episode addressed the bigger issues that women and men around this age, (i.e., jobs, marriage, life in general). However, Cece totally goes crazy and quits for Jess while she is on the phone with Jess' boss, Becky (Saved by the Bell, Showgirls' Elizabeth Berkeley). "Nailed it" indeed.

Aly confessing her true partner feelings for Winston was great, but I think we can agree, Winston will overload on Aly before the end of the season and let her know how he truly feels. Jess meets with Becky to apologize and turn in the budget report, but Becky pushes it too far and Jess really does decide to quit. Sometimes you have to say enough is enough when it comes to what you can take at a job. It's just a job, there are more out there, you can't be defined by what you do. You should be defined by the content of your character. So as episode 101 closes, we are left in a precarious situation with Cece freaked out, but excited about her next step in life with Schmidt and Jess will have a crisis of conscience with trying to figure out her next step. Just the basics of being a twenty to thirty-something navigating life. Comment below with your thoughts on the episode and tune into New Girl Tuesday's at 8/7 central.
