Girls - Wedding Day & Good Man - Double Review

And they’re back ! Hannah and her friends are back on HBO for a 5th season and I’m very excited about Girls's return. I know it’s not a very popular show and there has always a lot of criticism over it but I’m really fond of the it and of Lena Dunham's work. She’s always funny and inspiring, and she has a special way to describe and analyze our generation.

"Wedding Day", season 5 premiere wasn’t much inspired tough. It wasn’t a very original episode. Marnie was getting married and Lena Dunham played on the very classic and usual story lines about it. Marnie was angry and awful as it was her wedding day and of course things didn’t go as she wanted to be. She’s always the control freak, so it’s was fun to play more on that, but it didn’t add anything special to the episode.  And her future husband of course had his moment of doubt about the wedding. Sosh, now blonde and living in Japan was actually very funny at the wedding. I can’t wait to see her in Japan, the experience seems to have changed her.
It wasn’t a great episode but there were two excellent moments. First, it was Hannah and Marnie’s talk in the bathroom. I also think that Marnie is making a mistake getting married, he's not good for her and she’s gonna to suffer and regret it. But Hannah’s lie to protect her friend was cute and caring. At least Marnie can count on Hanah to be there for her afterwards. Marnie has to learn by herself that she’s making a mistake. Overall, it was a very beautiful and moving scene. The other excellent part was of course Jessa and Adam's kiss. I wasn’t a big fan of Hannah and Adam but Jessa and Adam have something super cute together, and their kiss was both sweet and disturbing. .

"Good Man", last Sunday episode was definitely better than the season premiere. I finally found back everything I love about Girls. It was a original, fun and emotional episode. Sosh and Marnie didn’t appear but it was a good choice, I didn't miss them as the episode focused on Hannah and Jessa. And it was brilliant.

Hannah’s life hasn’t changed much since last season, She's still living with Elijah and dating Fran. He’s a cute guy so he’s going to run away sooner or later. I don't think he can put up with Hannah's craziness for long. He was already shocked by Hannah and Elijah ‘s passionate kiss. It was awkward to do it in front of him but it was so typical Hannah.
And Hannah is still a teacher ! I was surprised she hadn't been fired yet. She’s still the provocative and offensive teacher for the young minds. I loved her interactions with the kids and her superior. But the best part of Hannah’s story in "Good Man" was her gay dad emergency. Clearly, Hannah is still struggling and having a hard time with her dad’s new sexuality. It’s totally understandable and his father didn’t really help by his behavior. The scene where Hannah goes to her dad’s hook up just to get back his wallet was pure comedy. Hannah and her dad are so great together, they're dysfunctional but they’re still a great team. Hannah’s mother always felt a bit outside, different from them and now she said she wanted a divorce so I can’t wait to see how things will go. I’d love Hannah and her dad to spend more time together in NY.

Finally, "Good Man" followed Jessa and Adam going on a date but not dating. Clearly, they have a great chemistry and connection, they’re good together and their scene at the fair was hilarious and so cute. But they also both know if they push their relationship further, Hannah is going to have one of her crisis (can’t wait !) and things will get complicated. But mostly, they’re both fucked up people, they would destroy each other pretty fast if they were together. They never had a healthy and stable relationship, it’s very unlikely they could find it together. But in a weird way, I’m starting to root for them. They’re weird and fun, their masturbation scene on the couch was very funny and memorable.

So, what did you think of Girls's return ? Which was your favorite episode : "Wedding Day" or "Good Man"? Do you like Jessa and Adam’s pairing ? How long Hannah and Fran will last ? Do you think Marnie's marriage will end quickly ? Hit the comments !
