In this week’s episode Cami and Klaus had a standoff. Cami wanted her dark objects back while Klaus wanted the weapon, also known as Hope’s favorite toy. In the end, Cami lost the weapon to a witch who worked for Aurora. She used the weapon to make white oak bullets. Aya and Elijah faced off for the position of leader of the Strix, only for Marcel to snatch it up right from under their noses. It turns out that Marcel and Elijah were working together. Davina gets in deeper with the Sisters.
Least favorite character: Is it just me? Am I the only one who has such a massive problem with what the writers are doing with Cami? I don’t even recognize her anymore. She made such stupid decisions this week. How did she not anticipate that people aside from Klaus would be coming after her. People who aren’t vampires and can just waltz into the graveyard. And she kept telling Klaus that he wants to do everything his way but did she realize she was doing the exact same thing. The reason their negotiations took so long was because they were both to stubborn. Klaus was the one who finally gave in. I’ve never been a fan of the Cami and Klaus pairing but the last few weeks before the winter break they were actually growing on me. But now it’s like all that progress is just gone. I hope she snaps out of it soon because I can only see this ending badly.
Biggest dilemma: Davina really is facing an impossible choice. She kind of doesn’t have a choice but to join the Sisters. I think she’s fully aware that this will probably end badly for her but the alternative would be to abandon Kol. I think her mind’s made up, especially after Ariane’s warning. She’s going to be going down a dark path. Hopefully Kol will be back before it’s too late for redemption.
Best twist: Usually I’m pretty good at figuring out what’s really going on, however this week I was genuinely surprised. I really believed that Elijah was furious at Marcel. The two have never gotten along great in the past so I didn’t anticipate that the two had made a deal. I’m actually looking forward to seeing these two work together. They have a very interesting dynamic, especially considering their history.
I knew it! Something I did see coming was that Aya wants to unlink the Strix from their sire. It makes sense that she’d want this. It’s a much better plan than eliminating every possible threat to the Original family. I’m surprised she hasn’t tried it sooner, but I guess it takes a lot of power to pull off a spell like that. I don’t think Davina will need much convincing. She wants to keep Marcel and Josh safe and the best way to do that is to unlink them from Klaus, who has enemies everywhere. I’m absolutely sure that this will happen by the end of the season. There’s never really been a big threat of Klaus being killed off because we knew the writers would never go there. If they did, they’d kill off 75% of the ‘Vampire Diaries’ cast. At least now they can legitimately tease it. Not that I expect Klaus to drop dead anytime soon, but the same thing could have been said of Elena. You never know.
Biggest disappointment: That was it? Is that all the Strix flashbacks we’ll get? I had such higher expectations. All they really did was focus on Elijah’s relationship with Aya, and even that wasn’t much. I wanted to see how it was created, what they’ve done over the centuries,… I have to be honest, I don’t really care about Aya’s character. Once you go after one of my favorites (Rebekah) you’re dead to me. I actually hoped Elijah would kill her but I’m not surprised it didn’t happen. Aya is still too important in the Strix storyline to get rid of. However, I am surprised that they replaced her as leader. I don’t think any of us saw the Marcel twist coming, but I really thought she’s lead them at least a little longer. I figured Elijah would kill her near the end of the season and take over control of the Strix. Now, I’m not so sure what will happen to her. I no longer think she’ll be killed off, but rather that she’ll leave town with the Strix.
What I expect to happen: Well obviously Aurora is back in the game. I did not expect her to have turned one of the Sisters. I guess I didn’t give her enough credit. It’s clear from next week’s promo that there will be a standoff between her, Klaus and Elijah. And that very unfortunate part of the prophecy about Freya being buried alive will come to pass. My hope would be to see her dead by the end of next week’s episode but I think they’ll drag it out a little longer. But she won’t be the main threat in the second half of the season. Aya and the Strix are a more likely candidate for that. Once they are unlinked from their sire, it will be open season on Originals. I’m very curious to know who will be on what side.
Best quotes: Hayley: “How exactly do you plan on keeping her distracted?” Elijah: “With a little salt and an old wound.”
Elijah: “Aya, don’t we look so very comfortable indeed leading Tristan’s little circus. Sadly, one does not simply ascend to the position of leader. It kind of has to be by my consent.”
Klaus: “It’s normally we who pose the threat to our intimates. It’s an odd feeling, the roles reversed. I always did loathe irony.”
That’s it for this week. Check in again for an all new review and let me know in the comments what you thought of this week’s episode.
