The Muppets - Swine Song & A Tail of two Piggies - Double Review: The Muppets’ Makeover

The history behind The Muppets’ Tv series is really convoluted. The show started to air on ABC this fall, obtaining a great starting result - rating-wise. At the end of the first half of the season, it ended up being quite rejected by the American audience. The Disney Network tried a last minute creative change and the result is a definitive improvement. I really enjoyed both episodes.

The first episode is called Swine Song and it was focused on the network decision’s to change Miss Piggy Late Night show’s format. It was an hilarious collision between reality and fiction. Miss Piggy decided to make her own way on the social networks’ world. After spending some time on vacation in Argentina, she seemed to have a new broader view of the world. All the characters reacted in their own unique way to this upstetting news, and it felt like something was really going on in this half-hour of television. There were enough gags and original content to consider this episode riveting.

The second episode 'A Tail of two Piggies' was complex, bizarre, but compelling. Promoting the new Disney’s movie “Zootopia” (a clear reference to Zoolander), Miss Piggy suffered a wardrobe malfunction and revealed her secret curly tail to everyone. This unfortunate event created a scandal, forcing Kermit and the gang to join forces in her favor. The episode felt real and gave to the viewers a strong and sweet message about acceptance and diversity. The writers came out with an unique way of dealing with such an hot topic, without losing the amusement. I loved it.

The Muppets seems to head in the right direction, but it’s clearly too late. The ratings of the latest two episodes were half of the fall’s outings results. The show is in danger of cancellation and I believe that ABC won’t likely have mercy. Such a great amount of potential that is poorly wasted. It is such a pity.

What do you think of Swine Song and A Tail of two Piggies?
