This week on Shadowhunters, we got flashbacks to the days when the Circle was still active. After getting Luke to Magnus’, he explained his and Jocelyn’s history with Valentine. Simon continues to spiral, while Izzy and Alec are confronted with the consequences of Clary’s actions. Clary discovers she can place an object into a drawing.
Favorite character: I figured I’d start out with the positive. The Lightwood siblings were, as usual, the highlight of the episode for me. Alec seemed a lot happier this week, despite hearing he’ll have to marry someone his parents chose for him. I think he’s kind of over Clary. At this point there’s not much else she can do to that’ll cause trouble. And being around Magnus did bring out his softer side. Now Jace just needs to get over himself and apologize to him for treating him like crap. I think Alec is going to need his parabatai’s help to get out of that arranged marriage.
Storyline that needs progress: At first I was intrigued by the fact that they seemed to have moved up the vampire storyline but what’s the point of already including it if it’s going to move so slowly. There needs to be some progress asap. Simon can only walk around agitated with superhuman strength and delusions for so long. The fact that Jace didn’t recognize the symptoms is unbelievable. He’s supposed to be one of the best Shadowhunters of his age and yet he doesn’t realize a fledgling is right in front of him literally trying to hit him in the face.
Favorite flashback: There’s one flashback that we saw twice. The first time it was showed, we didn’t yet have all the information. Originally this pissed me off because I didn’t think we’d get the see it again and was a little confused by the order of the flashbacks. I’m glad it was shown again with the added information. It’s not quite how I imagined it and I’m pretty sure some things were different from the books but I did like the fight.
Cutest character: I’m so happy we finally got to see the third Lightwood sibling. I felt kind of bad for him. He’s been separated from his siblings for so long and now that he finally sees them again, he keeps being sent into the other room. It can’t be easy having only Maryse and Robert around all the time. I could definitely see some of this siblings in him.
Best relationship: I like that Clary and Luke have made some progress. While she probably should’ve given him the benefit of the doubt, it’s good that she finally knows the truth. Jocelyn waited way too long to fill her in. I’m hoping Clary’s little magic trick will be further explained. We already saw some hints in the flashbacks as to what could’ve lead to her having this power. Honestly, I do find it hard to believe that Jocelyn wouldn’t have confided in Luke about this.
Best quotes: Max: “I told you, I was hungry. I was trying to draw the nourishment rune.” Alec: “Those two runes look nothing alike, Max.” Max: “Well, they do to me.”
Simon: “Come, fetch, roll over, lie down. You treat him like a lapdog.”
Alec: “I knew Clary Fray would come back to bite me in the ass.”
Max: “I never get to hear the good stuff.”
That’s it for this week. Check in again next week for an all new review and let me know in the comments what you thought of this week’s episode.
