    Ratings Breakdown:
Improved NBC led the Wednesday household overnights, besting No. 2 CBS and Fox by 0.5 rating points. Sophomore “The Mysteries of Laura,” which could be an option for the 50+ crowd on Friday next season, opened with a fourth-place 4.4/ 7 at 8 p.m., followed by dominant overnights for veteran “Law & Order: SVU” (5.4/ 9), which at this point could end up running longer than 20-season parent “Law & Order,” and sophomore “Chicago PD” (5.0/ 9) from 9-11 p.m.

In season-premiere news, the 32nd edition of “Survivor” on CBS was on the map with a second-place 5.1/ 8 in the household overnights from 8-9:30 p.m., which was nine percent below the year-ago midseason opener (5.6/ 9 on 2/25/15). Comparably, that 5.6 rating in the overnights translated into 10.04 million viewers and a 2.4 rating/7 share in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data.

Next on CBS was an encore telecast of “The Big Bang Theory” (#3: 3.2/ 5 at 9:30 p.m.), followed by freshman medical drama “Code Black,” which tried to theme itself “The Walking Dead” last night, at a second-place 4.0/ 7 at 10 p.m.

Fox featured “American Idol” at a time period winning 6.0/ 9 from 8-9 p.m., followed by “Hell’s Kitchen” at a 2.9/ 4 at 9 p.m., which slipped by 52 percent.

Elsewhere, ABC has nothing unusual to report with its Wednesday line-up of sitcoms “The Middle” (#3: 4.8/ 8), “The Goldbergs” (#4: 4.2/ 7), “Modern Family” (#1: 5.4/ 8) and “black-ish” (#2: 4.0/ 6), and sophomore drama “American Crime” (#3: 2.5/ 4). And The CW featured “Arrow” (#5: 1.8/ 7) into veteran “Supernatural” (#5: 1.3/ 2), which declined by 28 percent.

Since “American Crime” was a favorite of now ousted ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee, a third season is now suddenly a question mark.

  • About the Daily Ratings
Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above (We also where possible now post the 18-34 and 25-54 Demo Numbers).

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.
