Outsiders - Rubberneck - Advanced Preview: “Save Our Mountain”
14 Feb 2016
AM Outsiders ReviewsThis episode ups the stakes and gives Asa plenty to do as he is finally allowed into the middle of the effort to save Shay Mountain. Despite Big Foster’s objections to Asa he is their best chance at being able to save the mountain. He is savvy to the way of the world below and in this episode he uses that to his advantage.
While Asa is off trying to find ways to help save his home some interesting things happen on the mountain. Chief amongst those things is a very interesting development in Lady Ray’s story. Without giving much away expect Big Foster to even be surprised by what occurs. We also learn about some interesting bits from Big Foster’s past. It is entirely possible the man we’ve all come to know isn’t quite as vile as he would like everyone to believe. He’s certainly no good guy and he’s definitely not a character you can root for but that doesn’t seem to have always been the case. Asa will also find himself the recipient of some good ole family loyalty wisdom.
There is also a very interesting scene between G’Win and Asa that could have wide reaching implications in the future. G’Win loves Little Foster but the history between her and Asa keeps causing trouble. What will happen with this love triangle is anyone’s guess but I don’t envy G’Win because in truth she is stuck between two men who are both decent and whom both love her. It would be much easier for her if Little Foster was more like his father but thankfully he isn’t (yet) and unless that changes there is no easy answer for her. These men may both love G’Win and are tender and kind to her but neither grants the same kindness to their competitor for her heart. Both men will fight for her love (both figuratively and literally) and until one concedes or one kills the other G’Win has a hell of a choice to make. Big Foster instigates a situation between the two men that may not end in the outcome he had hoped for.
Sheriff Wade has some serious issues going on as he’s caught in the middle of just about everything. He can’t make any progress with the Shay Mountain situation and he’s not doing so great on the officer side of things as far as his boss is concerned. I think this is a character that will either turn out to be a great help to the Shay Mountain cause or he’ll be pressured into becoming one of its greatest pains. I think he intrigues me almost more than Asa does as both men have a lot at stake in this fight and both are fundamentally flawed.
The folks with One Planet Resources learn that claiming the mountain for their own means won’t be as easy as they expected. When their own reconnaissance efforts are used against them (thanks to Asa) look for some nervous individuals to start trying to up the stakes in order to maintain the upper hand. Based off of how the episode ends I think these people need to be concerned…very concerned.
This is a great episode that beautifully sets up what is to come next. The story is amped up and the relationships become more complicated. You cannot miss this episode so be sure to tune in to WGN on Tuesday at 9/8c!
When I was watching this episode it completely slipped my mind to write down any good quotes, but I didn’t want to delay getting this to all of you. So I’ll try and get you some quotes later tonight or tomorrow and if that happens I’ll be sure to note it in the comments and update the article so watch this post for some dialogue teases to come.
