Outsiders - Messengers - Advanced Preview + Dialogue Teasers
Feb 10, 2016
Outsiders Reviews SSAsa may have won the right to his place on the mountain after the pit fight, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to find it easy to settle in amongst his family, especially with Big Foster continuing to give him a hard time. The loser in that battle, Lil Foster, is not without his own problems either since his father has disowned him. Both of them are going to have to find a way to earn the respect of the big man, although the dilemma they each decide to take on to impress the wannabe Bren’in couldn’t be more different.
Things have moved along swiftly since Haylie, the perky new community relations manager, came on board last week. The extraction permit has been approved, therefore she and Sheriff Weinike have called a meeting to discuss moving the Farrell’s off Shay Mountain and into “more suitable housing.” The promise of employment and an influx of cash to the area may not be all it appears if one person who airs their view is to be believed, but in an impoverished town crying out for jobs it’s no wonder many are keen to support the mining company. It is Asa who causes the most upset when he takes the stand however. He too has some wise words, but his delivery of them only riles up the tension further.
Deputy Wade is one of the most intriguing character’s I have come across for some time. His past is clouded in secrecy, and while I am desperate to know more about his life I have to admit that I am also relishing this gentle teasing we have had so far. Some have speculated that his wife may be his link to the Farrell’s, and while I think that could well be the answer I feel there is more to the story yet to come.
This episode goes some way towards filling in parts of his character and what makes him tick, and although a few of the hints may not make the current situation much clearer, there is a huge amount to learn about the Houghton family’s past in general. We’ll see how he’s coping as a father to Caleb, plus his sister, Ledda, has a larger role this week, and along with her husband, Breece, a backstory that you may not be expecting starts to emerge throughout the hour. This plot is about to get darker, and even more mysterious.
Messenger airs February 9 at 9/8C on WGN, below are a few dialogue teasers to see you through until then. If you want to have a go at guessing who said what I will fill in any correct answers before it airs, although I know it’s early days yet so it will be tough. Don’t forget to come back and vote in our poll after the episode and let us know what you thought.
“Word is, your shine caused some kid to kill his dad. Now he’s locked up, and he was one of my best customers”
“A girl gives you a gift you gotta ask her to the floor. Come on”
“You don’t cause trouble, I’m trying to make all this go away. Now you gotta work with me”
“You want to come back here again? Then you do something right. For me. For this family”
“Tonight we’ll be hearing arguments, pro and con, concerning the relocation of the homestead of the family we call the Farrell’s”
“Caleb? Caleb? You ready to go to school?”
“You think you can just come back, do your time, win a pit fight and I’ll welcome you back like some sort of hero!”
“I just wonder why we gotta play by the rules while them Farrell’s don’t”
“Technically, I see a child come in looking like that I’m supposed to pick up the phone, but I assumed you already knew about it”
“Listen, you take one shot at them and they will come at us with everything that they’ve got”
