New Girl - Episode 5.8 - Review: "The Decision"

In this episode of New Girl, Reagan gives Nick and Winston a chance to decide who among the two will get to sleep with her while Schmidt and Cece decide to go look at a wedding venue, only for Schmidt to run into his college frenemy, Benjamin. I think I can say that I'm finally happy Megan Fox is a part of the cast and it will be kind of depressing to see her depart once Zooey Deschanel is back. Yes, her arc was more unflattering this episode, but we all knew by the end of the episode that neither of the two were going to choose to sleep with her. It was a good test of character for the three guys in the loft that set them on their respective paths.

One such path being Winston's epiphany that he likes his partner, Ally. He had started her what she liked about him while on the job and from his "kind eyes", the gang helped him see that it was Ally that he was really interested in. The moment with the gang in the loft where he spoke about her being the best part of his day was truly sincere. I only wish he could act on those feelings with the highlight at the end that Ally had a boyfriend, so maybe one day Winston would have a shot. Also, Nick's decision to wear a horrible, "not having sex" outfit was awesome and I was happy to see Reagan follow suit when their "decision" was null and void by the end.

Finally, Schmidt and Cece had to deal with some harsh words from Benjamin. I think this was another defining moment for Schmidt's character to see that all he really needs is Cece in his life. Yes, to Schmidt, material positions will still be a thing, but it was nice to see him take the high road when Benjamin kept twisting the fat-knife into his back. People grow up and mature, but douche-bags like Benjamin are not worth anyone's time. All in all, a pretty solid episode that despite the sad development for Winston, left me with a smile by the end. Comment below with your thoughts on the episode and tune into New Girl Tuesday's at 8/7 central.
