New Girl - Episode 5.6 - Review: "Reagan"

In this episode of New Girl, Nick and Winston make a deal to act their age and step up. They feel like they are too old to be playing the game and want to settle down. Enter Reagan (Megan Fox). Reagan is a pharmaceutical sales rep who Nick and Winston happen to run into in the lobby of a hospital. Nick makes the spur decision to sublet Jess's room while she is sequestered on jury duty. Little did the gang know that Reagan recognized Cece from the MTV Beach House 2003. Schmidt processing that moment was hilarious and I think a perfect way to introduce a new member to the gang.

"I'm a real melon felon." "When he has to process a lot of information, sometimes he has to do Nick Cannon's solo from the movie Drumline." That whole scene was amazing. I was wondering what type of drama would occur with someone like Megan Fox joining the gang. I assumed she would be a temptation for Nick, but I honestly wasn't expecting that background with Cece and I imagine some rough patches of temptation with Schmidt and Cece down the way. Schmidt's outburst regarding the Wedding Planner was perfectly capped off with the engagement ring that he's "working on." I do hope that Schmidt or Cece doesn't end wind up hooking up with Reagan because that would be a massive step back for their character arcs. I'm fine with the temptation and tension, but I sincerely hope the writers don't bring us on that path.

"It's time to stop chasing the magic." Stating that in any other manner would have been downright depressing, but for Nick, it was a call to action. He decided that it is time to act his age. Meanwhile, Schmidt worked out his problems with Reagan and figured out how to approach Cece with his mindset. "You can just love her and thank the universe that she loves you back." The imaginary trust ring was a nice gesture, a sign of Schmidt's trust in Cece. I have to say I liked Megan Fox. I'm excited for what she can bring to the show, but this episode showed that she was almost a little too good. I hope her arc develops and shows that she's not perfect; a single girl traveling from city to city not wanting to be tied down definitely has some baggage under the surface. Comment below with your thoughts on the episode and tune into New Girl Tuesday's at 8/7 central.
