3 Feb 2016
Criminal Minds Events Movies“Entourage” alumnus Adrian Grenier stars in the new film “Trash Fire,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Grenier plays Owen, a miserable antihero whose love story simmers with rage. His girlfriend, Isabel (Angela Trimbur) is pregnant with his child and Isabel’s brother (Matthew Gray Gubler) doesn’t want the two dating. So Owen has to prove he can become a stable father. Agreeing to reconnect with his only living relatives, the couple takes a trip to visit his perversely devoted grandmother (Fionnula Flanagan) and his sister Pearl (AnnaLynne McCord), who was severely burned in a fire. Owen intends to bury the hatchet but he and Isabel become entangled in a horrifying web of lies, deceit and murder.
The film premiered in the Midnight category at Sundance – a section reserved for horror flicks and bizarre, twisted comedies. Viewers and critics said “Trash Fire” fit the bill with its black humor, troubling portrait of love, nasty one-liners and touches of horror.
The film was written and directed by Richard Bates Jr., who also directed AnnaLynne McCord and Matthew Gray Gubler in 2012’s “Excision.” Shortly after the Sundance premiere screening, Bates made headlines by proposing to his girlfriend during the filmmaker and cast question-and-answer session.
SpoilerTV’s Tonya Papanikolas attended the film’s press line at Sundance, where she got a chance to interview the cast of the movie. Adrian Grenier told her why he was attracted to the darker role. AnnaLynne McCord talked about the joy of getting to play someone other than the gorgeous bombshell. And Matthew Gray Gubler gave her the most hilarious interview she could imagine. (We also asked him how his movie character compares to Spencer Reid in "Criminal Minds.") Check out these interviews below, plus our chats with Angela Trimbur and director Richard Bates.
