Cruel Intentions - Sarah Michelle Gellar Returning *Updated*

Update: Sarah Michelle Gellar confirms via Instagram she'll be returning as Kathryn Merteuil to star in NBC's Cruel Intentions Pilot.

Galler’s Kathryn is a master manipulator who easily hides her self-serving machinations behind a facade of charm, poise and warmth. The woman behind the scandal involving Bash’s mother, Annette Hargrove, Kathryn is now married to the wealthy Pascal Barrett and spearheads an inspiring youth rehabilitation movement, as well as being involved in a local private school. The stepsister of Sebastian Valmont, Kathryn is privately shaken by the arrival of Sebastian’s son, Bash, and the re-appearance in her life of the girl she wronged years ago, Annette Hargrove Casey. A force of nature, Kathryn has many secrets in her life.

Thanks to OUATFanatic for the heads up.

NBC’s Cruel Intentions reboot, which was just greenlighted to pilot, picks up 15 years after the cult 1999 movie, which starred Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Michelle Gellar. It follows the beautiful and cunning Kathryn Merteuil — the character played in the film by Gellar — as she vies for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey, the son of her step-brother, the late Sebastian Valmont (Phillippe), and Annette Hargrove (Witherspoon).

With Gellar’s character featured in the followup series, it is probably not surprising that the Buffy the Vampire Slayer star would be on the producers’ wish list. And now I’ve learned that Gellar has been approached about reprising her role in the pilot. It is unclear yet whether it would happen or not.

Gellar is being approached for pilots every season but has only agreed to do two since the end of Buffy — CBS’ comedy The Crazy Ones and drama Ringer, both of which went to series.
