While Grant Ward's first appearance in comics is coming soon, his TV iteration is being synced up with an existing comics villain, according to series actress Elizabeth Henstridge.
Talking about her character's struggles dealing with the increasingly dangerous and confusing world around her since the events of Marvel's The Avengers, Henstridge told an audience at Wizard World Portland, "...and now Ward is Hive and takes on the memories of people he's killed, so that's going to have some interesting situations."
In the comics, Hive was a genetic experiment created by Hydra, modified to carry the most “important” traits of the organization into a single being. He was created by Jonathan Hickman, and made his debut in the pages of Secret Warriors, who also debuted in this third season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
